is it safe to assume that if the hospital that i am delivering at takes my insurance, the anesthesiologist that is there will take it too? do i need to call up to confirm this?

Re: hospital anesthesiologist
There is no guarantee, and they way they get you is, if you're in pain and want the epi, you're not going to stop and ask what insurance they take.
I've never had an issue, but there are some women that have.
You can call up and see, worth a try.

Re: hospital anesthesiologist
It happens ALOT!!! My friend had this happen with another surgery so for her birth she made sure to ask and the anesthesiologist was covered. But then she didn't think to ask about the NICU doctor and she got a bill for $2000 for him!!! So Annoying!!!

Re: hospital anesthesiologist
NO! Most anesthesiologist do not take any insurance. However, in my case, I got a bill, had my insurance company give them whatever small amount they covered from out of network and never heard from them again.
There was also a sign at my OB's office stating something like- if you get a bill from an anesthesiologist please contact us and we will assist you.

Re: hospital anesthesiologist
wow i was hoping it would be covered...i guess ill contact my insurance company and/or the hospital to find out. but in the end, if it comes down to me not getting an epidural or having to pay for it...i will probably gladly pay for it

Re: hospital anesthesiologist
You likely won't know who the anesthesiologist doing your procedure will be until you're in labor. It will depend on who is on call that day/time.

Re: hospital anesthesiologist
Most anesthesiologists do not take insurance.
If you are delivering at an in-network hospital - their charges will be covered like any other in-network provider in the hospital.
A lot of times this does not happen automatically and you may have to make a call to your insurance company after receiving a big bill. Annoying, but not the end of the world.
Basically, since you do not have a choice of what anasthesiologist you use, you will be considered in-network.

I had an issue with both kids - my insurance only covered a certain portion. I was responsible for the remainder of the bill (which pretty much doubled in 27 mos). I wad able to get it reduced both times. I delivered in NJ.

My DH put it this way...when you need it and there's nothing you can do, you can't stop to ask...with our insurance, if someone is out of network, they send you a check and you send it to the provider and so far, they've taken what I've sent..my DD had a neonatologist who ended up attending to her because I didn't deliver at a local hospital..she was not covered, I did get a bill and they took whatever my insurance allowed them...

Re: hospital anesthesiologist
Check your insurance. According to my insurance the anestheologist is paid through the hospital.
