Does Cobra cover pregnancy?

Does cobra cover pregnancy? My DH just lost his job and it looks like will be on cobra for one month until new coverage begins which may fall during one of my sonograms.

Yes, but your new coverage might not cover the pregnancy itself since it's a pre-existing condition. You might have to stay on COBRA (as well as start coverage on your own insurance, so you'd have double coverage) until you give birth. Definitely talk to your HR dept asap to get it figured out.

It's not considered a pre-existing condition if you were covered under a different insurance plan and now are on a new one. They only consider it pre-exisitng if you didn't have insurance coverage to begin with. Also I believe with the new health care act they can't deny pre-existing conditions anyways after January 1.

Exactly this. In the past as long as you had continuous coverage your new insurance will cover any "pre-existing conditions" and anyway going forward with the health care reform you'll be fine.

As for your current plan, the plan you will have under COBRA is the same exact plan you had with your previous employer, same carrier etc., you're just paying your portion plus the portion the employer was covering.

This isn't 100% accurate. I'm going through this right now and working with HR and an employment attorney.

There are many facets to this, but basically since many insurance plans do not require you to pay anything until the birth, changing insurance plans during the pregnancy will have $$ implications. Every situation is different, which is why I urge the poster to speak with HR about her specific situation.
