almost 1 - still stage 2 food
I am starting to get more and more worried, I think I posted a few weeks ago about this too. Still need help, called Dr yesterday and he said if still not eating by 1 years old call back. He will be 1 January 1st (I can't believe it) If I mash a banana he gags. If I mash an avocado he gags. mashed potato- gags. we put 1 tiny pastina on his tongue he gagged. Baby puffs he gags. Stage 3 (most of them- except for sweet potato and pears) he gags. So all he eats is stage 2 and rice cereal and oatmeal and formula (never more than 6 oz per bottle, usually 5) he has more teeth now. doesn't seem to use jaw when eating. does not gag when swallowing- it happens the minute the food touches his tongue.
developmentally otherwise he seems on track..I think...he has waved, clapped and high fived but not always or too often..is this ok? he crawls every where stands walks when holding on, smiles, laughs, plays with toys independently and with others and "talks" alot and is normal weight and height. He is 1 month pre mature.

Re: almost 1 - still stage 2 food
Did he have reflux? DD had bad reflux and had a lot of issues with gagging on the thick purees and some solids. She is much better now that the reflux has gone away, but will, on ocassion still gag. I have heard that Stage 3 foods cause a lot of kids to gag and you might want to try just some more table food and avoid the mixed textures. Maybe try something more solid like a cut up cheese stick or biter biscuit.

almost 1 - still stage 2 food
My DS hated stage 3 foods or anything besides puffs or Cheerios.
It just took time but he wouldn't gag. Just spit out any chunks. He is now almost a year and we are having a tough time with table food and its killing me. I think time will help. My DS was 3 weeks early. But that has not been an issue because he has been early with so many things. Tried to walk at 6 months and was fully walking by 9.
Drs are quick to jump on an issue and I say go with your gut. If you think it's an issue def follow up but don't be afraid to give it a month if weight is good.

Re: almost 1 - still stage 2 food
DS was on stage 2 babyfood till he was about 2. Took him to feeding therapists and he's been in speech and OT since he turned 2. He's now 3 and a very picky eater, but at least he's off babyfood. Some kid's are just late eaters and will get it and some kids need a little help. Try calling EI to get him evaluated. Doesn't hurt and they will give you pointers. How does he eat? DS just munched the food. Gagged on lots of food. All therapies will say to avoid stage 3. Even kids without issues will gag on it. Try soft crackers like ritz or Toll House. Put some pieces towards the side of his cheek to get him to move his tongue around to move the food around. DS said he's on what they call the white diet. Has to be crunchy foods that can mash to nothing or babyfood. Like pasta an other foods don't break down. Crackers do. DS never liked puffs or cheerios. Start out small he'll be fine. As long ashes eating and gaining weight. Get him evaluated and read up on kid's with sensory issues. See if it makes sense. See what the doc says too. You can fm me if you have any questions.

Re: almost 1 - still stage 2 food
I would call EI and see if you could get him evaluated by a feeding therapist. It sounds like he could have some sensory issues and maybe the oral motor exercises and techniques that a feeding therapist could offer will help. My DD has seen a feeding therapist since she was 6 months old (she was 2.5 months premature) and she is now 17 months. She first had problems with putting anything in her mouth, a spoon would make her gag. Then we tried cereal, which she would gag on and throw up...same with stage 1 food. The therapist really did wonders for her. They always start the session with oral motor exercises. Getting her mouth used to different textures and movements. They recommended special spoons. It really was beneficial in every way. Now at 17 months she is still receiving feeding therapy (only bc she is severely underweight), but she eats and tries EVERYTHING. She no longer gags at all. It really is great. I use to hate having her try new foods in public bc I wouldnt want her throwing up everywhere.
Good luck. Please FM me if you have any questions. Feeding issues are not fun at all!

My son sounds like your child. I have twins & the one with the feeding issues is 26lbs at 14 months. My other guy is 19lbs & he is a Great eater. The bigger guy is large because he drinks too much milk. We just had a first session of feeding therapy on friday & was a complete DISASTER!! He cried the whole 45 min he was in highchair. He is so stubborn & clearly has a mind of his own. I am surely not loooking foward to our next session. My guy will eat table food but just not much until he starts throwing it on the floor. I am sure it will get better, just takes time. I definetly suggest calling EI
