Had my shower...now i have sone questions.
So my shower turned out amazing. The work DH and SIL put into it is beyond words! I am truly grateful for them! We had such a nice turn out and i was so touched (aka cried like a baby) after opening the gifts and seeing how generous everyone was!
We got so much stuff, but still need a lot of important items so as much as i hate to return things i will be going through the gifts today to see what i REALLY need and what we should exchanged for things like the mattress, diapers, bottle sterilizer etc.
Also will BBB and/or BRU accept my exchange as long as items are on the registry? What if i don't have a gift receipt will they just give me the store credit? BBB is better at this right?
Here goes:
1. Diaper Genie- i hear so many mixed reviews, some say it works great, others say it smells. Should i return it?
2. Hooded Towels- i have 3 robes (1 Tiger, 1 Winnie the Pooh, 1 duck-. We received 5 packs of hooded towel that are 3 in a pack. Thinking of only keeping 1 robe and 1 pack of hooded towels or should i keep two hooded towel packs?
3. PnP vs. Bassinet- we received a PnP but no rock and play, bassinet or swing. Is it worth going to buy a bassinet,or should LO just sleep in the PNP in our room? (It does have the top new born sleeper and changing area).thinking the money is best spent on the swing.
4-high chair- i registered for the full high chair at BBB and the space saver at BRU, i received the space saver. Thinking about returning it for the full high chair. What do you think?
5. Bath Tub, my good friend gave me her unused rainforest bath tub but i also received one at the shower AND a soothing water type tub. Thinking of keeping the one my friend gave me and just returning the other two?
6. Baby Carrier- we didn't get one. Is it a must have or should we pass? LO is due Jan, so we'll only be using the car seat with the shower cap bundle me if we have to go anywhere. I was going to buy the Britax one for the registry reward to get the free convertible car seat but i can wait and buy that in a few months since its not a huge priority.
7.Brica fold and go bassinet- i registered and received this. Thought it was a cute idea if we go to someones house and baby naps but should i return it?
I will be buying our mattress, crib sheets, sterilizer, diapers, wipes and 2nd car seat base with some of the money we received combined with credit we get from tge exchanges.
Ok i think thats it for now

So glad your shower went so well!! Diaper genie...I have a ranch and didn't want one. I use scented bags for stinky diaper changes. Robes-keep one and two packs of hooded towels. I do laundry more than I need to but I still like my abundance of hooded towels For dd I used a rock and play which she loved. I would use a rnp, pnp, and get a swing. The rnp is great because it is so portable and can be moved around the house. My ddi only used her pnp a few times. Stick with the tub your friend gave you. And definitely get the infant carrier. It was convenient when taking dd all over. I couldn't imagine not having it. Get a snap and go too if you can. My second favorite baby item!

I don't know if BBB is better, but if it's on your registry (unless the person ordered it online), they can tell how much the person paid and give you store credit for it at BRU. Just ask to see what you're getting back for everything. I tried returning a $60 item without a receipt and they wanted to give me $22 for it, so I decided to keep it and try to get a gift receipt for it.
Here goes:
1. Diaper Genie- i hear so many mixed reviews, some say it works great, others say it smells. Should i return it? My sister has a diaper genie and I've never had an issue with them smelling. What is your alternative?
I don't think you need that many towels. See what you can get for them.
3. PnP vs. Bassinet- we received a PnP but no rock and play, bassinet or swing. Is it worth going to buy a bassinet,or should LO just sleep in the PNP in our room? (It does have the top new born sleeper and changing area).thinking the money is best spent on the swing. I think a lot of people let LO sleep in the PnP. I have a bassinet, but only because my grandpa built it and it's used with all babies in our family. If I didn't, I would probably just use the PnP. It is probably worth it to get a swing, but not at the expense of having something for LO to sleep in when s/he is first here.
Return them!
IMO -- baby carrier is unnecessary.
7.Brica fold and go bassinet- i registered and received this. Thought it was a cute idea if we go to someones house and baby naps but should i return it? No clue what this is, so I can't help you here!

Loved , loved , loved my Diaper Genie. Totally worth it IMO.
Love the hooded towels. Wraps them up snug as a bug after a bath.
If you have the PNP I wouldn't bother with a separate bassinet, waste of money since you use it for such a very short time.
I looooved the Space Saver high chair, wish I never bothered with the full size one at all. For baby #2 I am just using the Space Saver.
I would return the other tub, a basic tub is all you need. The spa tub thing is a silly waste IMO.
Infant carrier, especially in the winter, is the BEST thing ever!!!!!! I loooooved it, no way I would pass on that in the cold months. It was sooooo much easier than the carseat, if it didn't get so heavy I would've used it forever. It was especially awesome when DD would fall asleep in the car, I would just keep her in there and pop off the Bundle Me and let her sleep undisturbed. Must have item IMO.
Fold and go bassinet is cute to have for when you're on the go however, if you have the infant carrier you can let them sleep in there too when you're out.

Totally up to you; honestly I preferred the white towels I purchased at Target.

Thanks so much ladies! Just finished typing up the list SIL took while we opened gifts. Will start going through the bags and counting the towels; and any duplicate or non essential items.

just another thought about the high chair, I might say return them both and make a decision later on since you don't need it for a while, BBB takes everything back, even if you didn't buy it there, they are amazing.
Glad your shower turned out so well!!

Had my shower...now i have sone questions.
Congrats on the great shower! I remember being so overwhelmed after mine, so I hope this helps..
1. Diaper Genie- I didn't need one when we first had DD because we were in an apartment and the kitchen was right near her room. I just threw it out in there. We took our trash out daily anyways. We have a house now and it's two floors, I've been using the diaper dekor and it's great so far. Not stinky and her poops stink!
2. Hooded Towels- You don't need that many infant towels. I'd return all the robes, you don't use them when they are little and keep the 2 infant hooded towels. I'd also get 2 toddler size ones instead of the robes.
3. PnP vs. Bassinet- skip the bassinet and get a swing and bouncer or rock and play.
4-high chair- I have a regular high chair because we only have 4 chairs at our table so a space saver took away a seat if we had company over. What ever is convenient for you.
5. Bath Tub. keep the hand me down return the rest.
6. Baby Carrier- It's a must for me, I used it in the house, when running errands, etc. I looooved looooved wearing DD.
7.Brica fold and go bassinet- I probably wouldn't keep this unless you spend a ton of time at someone else's house and in which case I'd probably just get another swing or bouncer. I spend a ton of time at my parents so we did wind up getting some extras for their house, but if you are just out and about the baby will likely be fine in their car seat.

What if the item wasn't on my registry there? Do I need an excuse like someone bought it even though we didn't register for it, or do i just go in and return it and say i just don't havevthe receipt?

Re: Had my shower...now i have sone questions.
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions!!!
We have a two level house and the nursery is upstairs. I'm thinking I will try out the disposable bags at the beginning and see how well that works having DH put them outside right away. If it's too much or causes a stink if we leave the bags in the house during nighttime diaper changes we'll open the Genie; if not we'll take it back to the store!
I will keep just 1 pack of the hooded towels; good point on the sizing. I can hold onto the credit and get bigger towels when baby is bigger.
We also only have a table that seats 4; so I'm leaning towards returning the space saver one and getting a regular highchair. This way I can roll it into the kitchen when I cook and feed/occupy baby instead of taking up one of my dining room chairs.
Both the extra bathtubs will be going back!
I do like the idea of getting to wear baby; I will buy the carrier. DH likes the idea of getting to wear baby if we go out on walks or anything.
And we will return the travel bassinet. We really don't need it.

Re: Had my shower...now i have sone questions.
1. Diaper Genie- i hear so many mixed reviews, some say it works great, others say it smells. Should i return it?
We use it. I buy the refills at BJs or wherever I can on sale. DD is still young so I wouldn't say it really stinks for now. But if a particular diaper is stinky it goes straight outside to the trash.
Never used a robe. DD gets wrapped up right in the hooded towel and dried off. Any towels and wash cloths get washed. We do baby laundry every other day, same with baths so it works out you shouldn't need a lot. I can't really imagine a robe being functional.
3. PnP vs. Bassinet- we received a PnP but no rock and play, bassinet or swing. Is it worth going to buy a bassinet,or should LO just sleep in the PNP in our room? (It does have the top new born sleeper and changing area).thinking the money is best spent on the swing.
We keep the PNP downstairs. Our plan was to use it for naps and changing. We still use it for changing but DD tends to sleep in the swing. We also have the RNP and a basinet. The original plan was a basinet for upstairs but DD didn't do wel flat so we bought the RNP. I would just get the RNP and PNP if I would do it over again. I think the swing is a life saver but not all babies like them. Try a space saver swing, they are much cheaper.
4-high chair- i registered for the full high chair at BBB and the space saver at BRU, i received the space saver. Thinking about returning it for the full high chair. What do you think?
We have a full high chair, we didn't want to give up a dining room chair. We don't have an EIK but the dining room is right off the kitchen. If you have a folding chair I'd go for the space saver just because it's cheaper.
5. Bath Tub, my good friend gave me her unused rainforest bath tub but i also received one at the shower AND a soothing water type tub. Thinking of keeping the one my friend gave me and just returning the other two?
Return the two. Does the tub have a newborn sling?
Carrier or carseat cover? I bought a car seat cover and love it. But I don't think it will be warm enough in the winter so I have a bundle me too.
Baby carriers - borrow from a friend if you can. I do like the moby wrap because it's like a giant continuous hug for DD. It sooths her and she can nap right on me.
7.Brica fold and go bassinet- i registered and received this. Thought it was a cute idea if we go to someones house and baby naps but should i return it?
If you get a rock n play, that is very portable!

Re: Had my shower...now i have sone questions.
Yes, you can exchange anything when it's on your registry. BBB is GREAT at returning anything without a receipt, even if it's not on your registry.
1. We don't have a diaper genie. I got one, never used it and returned it. I dont see the need. We put it in our garbage and throw out every day. It never smells. You can put the poop in those poopie bags first. We do sometimes.
2.The robes are not necessary. We never really used it. It was annoying. We had about 3-4 hooded towels and it was enough. Maybe a few more would have been perfect.
3. PnP should be fine. I really recommend the Rock n play thought. It was amazing. You could always wait and see. If the baby sleeps fine in the PnP, just use that. You dont need a bassinet though.
4-we have the space saver one (FP) and love it. I'd keep it and just use that!
5. Bath Tub, Return them and use the one your friend gave!
6. Baby carrier is personal. We didn't really use it because I couldnt find one I like. Next one I will get one. Either the Ergo or Bjorn I think. I hated the moby and Ktan. returned them. It's not a necessary. If you don't think you'll use it, don't waste your money
7.Brica fold and go bassinet- You could always bring the PnP to people's houses, or get the RnP. very easy to fold and bring. we did all the time.
sterilizer is not a necessary IMO
Congrats and enjoy!

Re: Had my shower...now i have sone questions.
Crashing...
1. Diaper Genie- i hear so many mixed reviews, some say it works great, others say it smells. Should i return it?
I've heard good and bad about it as well - we just used a regular garbage can and took out stinky diapers immediately.
I have a robe but, I have never used it for either DS. I would keep 2 packs of the towels - that should be enough.
3. PnP vs. Bassinet- we received a PnP but no rock and play, bassinet or swing. Is it worth going to buy a bassinet,or should LO just sleep in the PNP in our room? (It does have the top new born sleeper and changing area).thinking the money is best spent on the swing.
I don't think you need the bassinet. We had a bassinet (it was a family one) and didn't ever use it. We used the Rock N Play for DS 2 and the Pack N PLay for DS 1.
4-high chair- i registered for the full high chair at BBB and the space saver at BRU, i received the space saver. Thinking about returning it for the full high chair. What do you think?
I have a full high chair because when we had DS 1 - we didn't have an adequate chair for a space saver. Now we do and I hate the huge full one and wish I could justify getting the space saver. DS 2 is going to be moving to the booster seat a lot earlier than DS 1 did.
5. Bath Tub, my good friend gave me her unused rainforest bath tub but i also received one at the shower AND a soothing water type tub. Thinking of keeping the one my friend gave me and just returning the other two?
I would use the bathtub your friend gave you.
I would wait and see if you have a need for it. I only really used it when travelling or with DS 2 if I was outside following DS 1 around and nobody else was with me.
7.Brica fold and go bassinet- i registered and received this. Thought it was a cute idea if we go to someones house and baby naps but should i return it?
I'm not familiar with this product but, if we were visiting for a short period of time, someone usually held DS or they slept in their carseat. If we were spending a day somewhere, I brought the Rock N Play or a bouncy seat.

Re: Had my shower...now i have sone questions.
Happy to hear your shower was a success! Here are my opinions...
1. Diaper Genie- i hear so many mixed reviews, some say it works great, others say it smells. Should i return it? It isn't necessary but it does help. We used it but once I ran out of the bags I didn't bother replacing them. Just used our dog's poop bags...
My son is over 2 and we still use the hooded towels. Never really used the robe at all. So, I don't think it would hurt to keep all of the towels.
3. PnP vs. Bassinet- we received a PnP but no rock and play, bassinet or swing. Is it worth going to buy a bassinet,or should LO just sleep in the PNP in our room? (It does have the top new born sleeper and changing area).thinking the money is best spent on the swing. If it has the built in bassinet, the PNP is probably enough - assuming you have the space. Our bedroom is small - so the PNP took up way too much room and we bought a small bassinet. They grow out of the bassinet quickly. Swing is nice to have or a vibrating chair - some place to put baby that's soothing...
4-high chair- i registered for the full high chair at BBB and the space saver at BRU, i received the space saver. Thinking about returning it for the full high chair. What do you think? We had a full and then my mom bought a space saver that attaches to the seat for her house. I liked the space saver one better - we donated our full one and are using the space saver... it's a matter of preference. I'm about as pregnant as you - so out of fatigue, I say keep the one you have :)
5. Bath Tub, my good friend gave me her unused rainforest bath tub but i also received one at the shower AND a soothing water type tub. Thinking of keeping the one my friend gave me and just returning the other two? Yes - return the two.
I loved my baby carrier! I would strap the baby on and continue to wear my maternity coat - so the baby fit snuggly in there with my coat over him. Baby carriers are very personal - I would even recommend waiting and taking the baby with you to shop for a carrier that works best for you and baby.
7.Brica fold and go bassinet- i registered and received this. Thought it was a cute idea if we go to someones house and baby naps but should i return it? No idea what that is...
I will be buying our mattress, crib sheets, sterilizer, diapers, wipes and 2nd car seat base with some of the money we received combined with credit we get from tge exchanges.
Ok i think thats it for now
Hope that helps :)

Thanks so much Everyone!!! I felt so overwhelmed with what we received and what we still needed! It helps to get the opinions of others as to what they found important so I really appreciate your feedback!!!
