vaccine spinoff (for mom) DTap

did you get it? my OB stressed how important it was for anyone and everyone who will come in contact with LO to get one ... wondering if anyone else's OB stressed the same? I got it at 30weeks and DH will get it soon!

Due to the increased number for pertussis cases

My OB did not feel strongly about this and said that there was not enough research to support getting it while pregnant. DS received it as part of his normal vaccine schedule.

However, my inlaws both got it because they heard the same thing you did...

My OB never mentioned it when I was PG last time but I had it done right before I went back to work (about 6 months after DS was born) b/c the nurse doing my health screening at work suggested it (I work at a hospital).

I was offered it and took it before I left the hospital with dd in 2010. I especially got it b/c I wasn't sure if I was going back to work and was a 1st grade teacher at the time.

dh got it when he transferred jobs and is now working in the medical field and has meetings in hospitals.

At my last ob appt she was mentioning it and I told her I got it in 2010 and she said great you only need it 1 time in your life. I thought you need a booster every few years but whatever haha

I think its worth it to get it. there have been recent outbreaks on long island, even though we most likely got the vaccine as children the likely hood is that our immunity has decreased.
It can be very debilitating if you get it. The research has showed that getting the vaccine does not hur the baby.

That's what I thought. Maybe she meant a booster? I have no idea. May be they didn't do them when we were kids. I was questioning that in my head but didn't ask questions.

if you were born in the 80's and got vaccinated then you got it, but it was a different type it was a live virus back then. this on is aDPAT, the a means acellular its synthetically made, but still very affective.

I'm going to get the booster when they offer it to me in the hospital. DH and both our moms got the booster a few weeks ago.

In October 2012, an expert panel recommended that all pregnant women get the whooping cough vaccine in her last 3 months of pregnancy. It's also recommended that anyone who will be around the baby get it (spouse, grandparents, etc).

Read article here

I got the vaccine at my 28w appt and DH got his around that time, too. It's painless and safer for both you and the baby to get it in.

ETA: If you get the booster in the hospital, it will protect you, but not your LO. Also wanted to say that this recommendation literally happened 6 weeks ago, which is why moms who had babies a few years ago weren't given the same recommendations.

My ped actually told me that they saw cases in teenagers who were vaccinated as children, so clearly the vaccines don't last forever! She sounded a bit surprised by what she was seeing too. This was in 2011 before DD was born.

exactly
b/c your immunity decreases over the years. If people got titres draw to see what they were still immune to, alot of people will need boosters for everything.

Re: vaccine spinoff (for mom) DTap

I'm working for a vaccination clinic currently and it is now recommended that adults receive one booster of Tdap during their adult life. Basically instead of getting a booster of tetanus (Td) every 10 years you just receive a Tdap for one of them. We don't vaccinate pregnant women but we get so many family members coming for the vaccine so doctors are definitely making people aware.

We do vaccinate children but unfortunately it was discovered it does not provide life long immunity.

We actually receive 11 year old children that come in with letters from their schools requesting they receive the Tdap vaccine or they can not return until received. Maybe that it how they are combating the outbreak in the adolescent population?

Just curious what week doctor appointment were you in when your doctor recommended that you and your family receive the vaccine?
