Zumba - Would you continue?
I have been doing zumba at least once a week for a year now. Before my BFP I asked my dr about it and about running (I have been doing races and training for months) and she said no working out at all - She is very strict with the do's and dont's Anyway, would you continue with Zumba?? I went last night and did not do any jumping around just walked the moves Also someone close to me is the teacher and being that I don't want to come out for awhile it will be hard for me to think of an excuse TIA

Re: Zumba - Would you continue?
I think you should always follow doctor's order.
My doctor told me to continue with my routine and always listen to your body. No ab workout, no laying on your back and no heavy weights. I'm still working at least 3x a week. I do spinning once or twice a week (depending how I feel) and I do Zumba on Fridays but I change my movements. No bouncing, no jumping. I'm 31 weeks and this might be my last week doing Zumba. They change the instructor and the new one likes to jump and do a lot of squats.
With my prior pregnancy I ran until I was 7 months. It all depends on your fitness level and how good you are in listening to your body. I have never heard of a doctor saying you shouldn't workout during your pregnancy. They actually recommend you keep active.

Re: Zumba - Would you continue?
If you a regular attendee I would continue to go. My doctor recommended exercise.... She wasn't too thrilled with my form of exercise, Ice Skating, but she said as long as I was comfortable with it and I know my limits then I could continue. I explained that I'm more hazardous on my own two feet than on ice skates! haha!
I say continue and like PP stated, listen to your body!!! I would also recommend wearing a heart rate monitor if you have one, that way you can control your heart rate more easily!

Re: Zumba - Would you continue?
It really comes down to why your dr told you to stop working out. I've never heard of a dr saying not to work out at all, unless there's a medical reason. I had bleeding early on and was told no exercise until it stopped. Once it did, I was encouraged to resume working out.
That being said, you do have to take your workout regime down a level. You have to monitor your heart rate to ensure it stays under 140bpm. Instead of running, you should walk or use the elliptical. You'll find that your hb will go up very quickly without much effort - just a side effect of pregnancy. At 29 weeks I'm still working out, but get tired really easily and am getting uncomfortable, so it's much less than before I was pregnant.

Re: Zumba - Would you continue?
I would recommend the book exercising throughout pregnancy by Dr. Clapp. I was in the best shape of my life before my BFP (had just finished a round of p90x, a round of insanity and ridden in a 75 mile bike race) and I did not want to stop working out but wanted to figure out how to do it safely. For me the book made a big difference. I continue to exercise and my doctor agreed that I should do that.

Zumba - Would you continue?
Thanks ladies - there is no medical reason the dr said no. She is a little odd with her dont's during pregnancy - with my first DC from day 1 she said no leaving NY - her reasoning is that if something were to happen she is not able to help me in any other state but NY Needless to say I went to other states and was fine She just kind of thinks once you get a bfp you should do nothing! I am going to get a heart rate monitor and last night i was def making sure I was listening to my body and not doing too much and drinking lots of water As long as I feel comfortable doing it I will continue it - Thank you so mucn again

Re: Zumba - Would you continue?
Sorry to crash, a close mommy friend of mine is a Zumba instructor, she taught 3 days a week. She continued with her doctor's permission right up until a few weeks before she delivered.

Unless you're high risk, I personally don't see any reason so stop exercising (if your body is so used to it) unless you are uncomfortable, out of breath, in pain, etc ......

Re: Zumba - Would you continue?
I was told to continue what I was doing but modify the intensity. No sprinting obviously. I wear my heart rate monitor and jog/walk on the treadmill, use the elliptical and weight train a few times a week!
