Help! Diaper Change Drama

I need help. My DD is 2 1/2 and has started screaming and crying hysterically when it's time to change her diaper. If I say "come on time to change you" she freaks out and says "no it's going to hurt" or "no it hurts my hiney". There is no rash there, it's not red, looks totally normal and when I am changing her and ask her to point to where it hurts she points to her vagina. I tell her I will be gentle and she holds daddy's hand to make her calm down a little. She has always (since newborn) for some reason been weirdly sensitive to her parts being touched whether to wipe with wipes or clean with a washcloth, but never complained of pain or cried. Several times after the diaper change is over I ask her if it still hurts and she says "no it's all better now". It seems to get less dramatic each time throughout the day, but then starts all over. She did it at my moms house when she watched her yesterday and also at my BFF's house when she was with her today. I am going to call the doc tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

I know abuse is the first thing people think of (I looked up similar problems online and that was always the first suggestion by others), but she is with me and my husband (together) most of the time and when she isn't she is with my mom or my BFF both of whom have watched her since she was 3 months old. I feel bad for her!! Any suggestions would be appreciated, i'm freaking out a little!! Chat Icon

Re: Help! Diaper Change Drama

maybe its time to get rid of the diapers? when shes home can she go without them and than have her go on the potty? maybe less irritation/feeling of having a diaper on her skin.
what about trying more of a pull ups type diaper

My friends son was the same way...Turned out he had a sensory processing disorder... He also hated it when anything or anyone touched his head or hair... Potty training was a nightmare... Run it by your dr and see what they say...

Re: Help! Diaper Change Drama

DD is 19 months old and had this happen a few weeks ago and lasted about 3 weeks.

DD happened to grab down there one day when her Grammy was changing her and ended up scratching herself down there. The Dr. saw the scratch and said the urine was probably burning it, so to give her more apple juice (rather than OJ or anything acidic) and to use vaseline/aquafor with some powder until the scratch healed itself, which it did and now DD doesn't mind us wiping down there again.

Re: Help! Diaper Change Drama

OMG the SAME thing happens when I go to change DD who is 21 months. No rash, no redness, I wipe gently, but she freaks out. She fights me and sometimes cries hysterically. DD is watched by my mom, my aunt and DH's aunt all of whom would never, ever, ever hurt her so I have no suspicion of abuse. (It hurts me to even have to think that way..) I plan on bringing it up at her next well check. We are starting potty training in December, maybe that will help...

my DD freaks when i try to wipe her too and she will squeeze her legs together to the point where we have to force them apart to clean her Chat Icon it started a while ago and hasn't gotten better. she overall mostly hates diaper changes unless i distract her with something, but shes only 18m so most of the time a toy will distract enough.
