Differences between medicated IUI vs IVF
Hello all!
Sorry for those blank posts just before, I don't know what I did and cant figure how to delete them!
I posted several months ago as we started looking for an RE out here on LI. So we found one who we really like (Dr Zapantis). The reviews you ladies posted on here were very accurate, thank you.
We are going to be doing our first IVF beginning of next year. I had a medicated IUI back in 2009 which was successful. Last March we had an unsuccessful medicated IUI.My question is for those of you who have done both medicated IUI and an IVF, are there any significant differences I should expect while we cycle? Obviously, I'm familiar with injections and this will require ER and ET but I'm just curious to know if there are differences that I can have the heads up on. I'm nervous to start this but also excited. Thanks

Differences between medicated IUI vs IVF
i did a lot of heavy meds during my medicated non-IVF cycles and was expecting IVF to be easy just because i was used to it. honestly, it was still overwhelming with how many meds you really need during an IVF cycle. i guess the stim part was sort of the same for me, what shocked me was how many meds were needed AFTER the ER also. i wasn't really expecting the antibiotics and the suppositories and the skin patches in addition to the PIO (which i did expect). given every doctor is different and I saw Dr. B and I know he tends to RX more meds than other doctors because he is treating for both "standard" IVF protocols as well as clotting and immune factors.
that being said it def is a lot more intense then a regular medicated cycle. good luck!

Re: Differences between medicated IUI vs IVF
I think the biggest difference between a medicated IUI and IVF is the emotional aspect. There's so much more invested in an IVF cycle financially, emotionally, physically ... IVF not working just felt like a much bigger blow (my opinion). Also, if it doesn't work, there's a longer period of time between cycles. Typically you can get one transfer in every 8wks or so if you wanted to .... With IUIs it's every month.

Thanks for the responses :) My gut is telling me it's much more than what I have experienced with medicated IUI and your responses are confirming that. Seems no matter how much you try to prep yourself for a treatment, it always remains an emotional roller coaster. Appreciate the replies!
