OTHER people asking about your weight?

I didn't realize that how much weight I gained during my pregnancy would be such a common question. Almost EVERY person I have a converstaion with asks me this! I don't think it's appropriate; and I usually say I'd rather not answer or I'll say something like "About what's normal" I was at my sisters house and her MIL called on the phone and I ended up talking to her for a second and she asked me how much I gained. At a shower yestereday someone who I haven't seen in over a year asked me. I don't think they're asking in the sense of saying "WOW how much weight have you gained?" Especially because they'll usualyl say "You look great! How much have you gained" and they'll usually throw a number out about 10lbs less that what I actually gained so it's not in a mean way; but just seems like a weird/personal question?

Is anyone else being asked how much they gained? How do you respond? Am I the only one that thinks it's none of their business and can't figure out why people keep asking or feel the need to comment on weight at all?

OTHER people asking about your weight?

I've been asked but mainly by family. I usually tell them. It has kind of stopped since this summer when I was at my IL's with my parents. My parents made a comment about my weight and my MIL snapped at them. She knows I've always struggled with my weight and has been concerned that I would try to continue dieting while pregnant. Since then, I haven't heard a peep. People at work will make statements about weight which kind of seem like they are fishing for info but I normally say nothing.

OTHER people asking about your weight?

People do ask and I tell them but not without giving them a whole story about some of the weight being from the Fibroid (who even knows how much it adds) and then go into all other unpleasant pregnancy details... I find this prevents people from asking anything too personal if they shouldn't be. I don't care if friends/family ask but that could be because I have a tendency to be an over-sharer of info anyway.

Re: OTHER people asking about your weight?

someone asked me recently (a doctor I work with) and I said "my doctor is fine with it"
it's an odd question- im not sure why people think it's ok to ask, but i feel like pregnancy definitely makes you more susceptible to people's stupid and random comments and questions.

Wow I can't believe so many people have felt it was ok to ask that question!! Chat Icon

My answer would be "enough to have a wonderfully healthy baby", and I'd say it with an annoyingly sarcastic smile.

Re: OTHER people asking about your weight?

To be honest, I don't know how much I have gained. I don't look at the scale when they weigh me. I have told them that I don't want to know unless it is too much or too little. Other than that, it's unimportant. I have always had eating issues and don't want a number to stress me out during my pregnancy. When people ask, I just tell them, "I don;t know" Chat Icon

I think i might just start saying I don't know; but in range since my doctor hasn't said anything. It's just such an inappropriate question in my opinion!

OTHER people asking about your weight?

honestly, no one has asked me this question yet, but even if someone did, i would answer them truthfully. I've only gained 4 pounds during this whole pregnancy. I'm 28w so I'm hoping i don't completely blow up in the last few weeks to come...

I think everyone is different. I openly tell people how much I've gained and don't get offended at the question. But if you do, just give a generic answer and the person who asked will probably get the hint.

Re: OTHER people asking about your weight?

No one has asked me yet and I honestly wouldn't care to answer the question. This is my 4th pregnancy so I think I'm use to all the stupid comments from people.

OTHER people asking about your weight?

I'm not offended by the question (haven't been asked yet) but I watched pregnant friends and family members talk about their weight gain or loss non-stop. I just don't want to dwell on it, so if I was asked I would say "i'm right on track" and keep the conversation moving.

you ladies made me Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon out loud. At the start of my pregnancy, i was overweight, not by much, but enough to be on the low end of the scale where Dr's tell you to gain less than 15 pounds. I weighed about 180 pounds at the beginning, but I have to say that i carried it well. i had serious food aversions in the first trimester and when the second trimester hit, my Dr. told me to try not to gain any weight at all. I wasn't trying NOT to lose weight but i just wasn't gaining anything either...I have a small bump, so you can tell I'm pregnant, but most people would assume that I am around 4-5 months and not closer to 8

Re: OTHER people asking about your weight?

i personally think that people come up with the most inappropriate comments and questions to pregnant women. it's like, manners go right out the window and people think it's a free for all. it's beyond bizzare to me. i fielded questions about my weight the entire pregnancy and hated every moment of it.

people assume because they see a bump that you are gaining weight - no one stops to think that organs are being rearranged inside the female body to accomodate this growing baby - which is was causes our bumps to pop out regardless, if none of us gained any weight at all, we would still have bumps!

I was 179 the week before I found out. I was dieting at the time so I was like 174 when I got my BFP. I am down to 171, (NO, I'm not dieting anymore). According to the doctor i have lost 2 lbs since the first visit and they aren't concerned. I am 13 weeks, so I'm sure my weight will start to rise soon. I am terrified of breaking 200lbs, so i hope i keep up the minimal weight gain. I share with everyone my weight because I was so concerned I was losing and thought it was bad, but I'm sure I'll get the question down the road!
