Do you believe the myth that if you are overweight it is harder to BF?
clicky
I feel like it is true to some degree, maybe in some instances makes it more challenging, BUT not really so cut and dry. I do carry some guilt for only being able to BF for 2 months the first time. I think part of it was not having good support (DH was supportive but I did not have anyone else around to try and keep me going). I think part of it was also being overweight (= bigger boobs and baby had hard time latching).
Just curious what others have experienced. I guess I'm just full of questions this morning

well i really hope PCOS does not cause an issue since i have it and would love to BF. Never heard that being overweight or having large breats would cause a problem

I dont believe it. All my extended breastfeeding friends are big girls and have PCOS like me.

I tell you, it is FRUSTRATING to hear negative things like this because I struggled so badly the first time. Crying and crying, just felt like I wasn't doing what is right, this time around (and now knowing how hard BFing can be) I want to prepare myself. It's good to hear from you and others that this is not so true!
Someone just told me about this other site (having to do with BFing struggles). I guess I'll check it out clicky

Re: Do you believe the myth that if you are overweight it is harder to BF?
My issues with BF had to do with the PCOS and not the weight. In fact, DD was a great latcher despite the big boobies. Anyway, the hormonal imbalance associated with PCOS can be a problem (about 30% I think is the #). I asked my doctor about it before hand and was dismissed. Boy was he wrong! Anyway, I suggest you talk to your OB and read up as much as you can about BF and PCOS. Also, Kellymom is a great website. Just be proactive!! I wish I had been. If and when #2 comes along I wil be much more aggressive in BF'iing and dealing with the PCOS end of it.
