Anyone live in Conneticut?
Has anyone moved to Connecticut? How does it differ from Long Island? Pros - cons? Any recommended areas, preferably close proximity to boating?

Re: Anyone live in Conneticut?
My brother and his family live in Ridgefield CT. The town is seriously like a beautiful winter Christmas card. The schools are good and they are very active in their religious community.
I'm not sure how the prices in CT compare... Maybe you get a little more house for your money there than LI, but not much...
HTH!

My Aunt/Uncle and Kids live there too. It's really beautiful! The kids loved growing up there, it does seem a little to picture perfect from the outside, i.e. everyone seems to have it all together, but it's a super cute town. The taxes are lower than most of LI, but house prices are high there. Some of the men commute to the city, but alot work in Stamford. My other Aunt/Uncle and kids live in New Cannan, which is a bit closer to NYC, my uncle works downtown. The commute is pretty much an hour/hour and a half each way. The taxes are also lower there, but the house prices are high! Pretty comparable to Long Island. New Cannan has a more upscale town and attracts a ton of wealthy families, but doesn't seem as stepford-ish as Ridgefield. I really like both towns and I'm sure there are a ton of other cute towns too if you spend a weekend exploring!

I live in Simsbury and we just bought a house in Granby. When I first moved up here last winter I kept commenting on how it looked like everyone stepped out of a JCrew catalogue. The town I live in is very Norman Rockwell/Currier & Ives feeling, I love it now and the schools are excellent. Depending on the area you are looking in you can definitely get more house for your money. The closer you are to NYC the more you are going to pay for a house. Where I live is 2 hours door to door back to Long Island. Let me know if you need any info on any Hartford County areas.

Omg, just have to say that you hit the nail on the head with your "stepford-ish" description of Ridgefield.

Anyone live in Conneticut?
We moved from LI to Stratford last year. LOVE it. The houses are priced pretty comparably but the biggest break is taxes. And I feel we get a lot for our money here, the town offers a ton of activities for the kids. There is a beach for residents, schools are good, the people are just wonderful.
For affordable communities close to boating, Branford, Milford, Stratford are all great areas.
Overall, we spend less living here than we did on LI. I've found some things to be a bit cheaper, especially groceries. Things like electric, cable, oil are about the same. Our car insurance got a smidge cheaper but that savings is eaten up by the property tax on vehicles, so it evens out. Sales taxes are a bit lower here too.

Re: Anyone live in Conneticut?
My dad grew up in Milford and 90% of his family still lives there. I absolutely love the Main Street feel, although it has gotten bigger since even I was a kid. But I love the beach, park, the river, the cemetery, the OLD colonial feel to it.
Tara - my dad always talks about how the kids from Milford HS would do the "snake dance" down the streets of Stratford before the football game. Granted he graduated in 1952.
