...a "bad" word.
We try to be good, but every once in a while DH has slipped, and I yell at him when he does.
Do I make a big deal out of this? I already explained that it is a "bad" word we do not say.

In the beginning, just be very serious telling them its bad.... it may just be a slip up at first

I agree with AP- when you first hear it, tell him calmly and sternly that it us not a nice word and he should not say it. After that, I would ignore it, because he may say it to test your reaction. Any reaction may fuel his desire to continue saying it.

the more you react the more he will continue to say it.. i ignore it now or if one of my kids says it, i will say did you just call her a "juice bag"? and we laugh and thats it.. they are 3 & 5 and for the most part if a bad word is said its "juice bag"
kids will be kids.. and i am a very lax parent, but the will say "bad" words, no matter how much we teach them not to, so we dont make a big deal about it.

Been here!
Substitution works best. Substitute "oh no" or something similar.
For my kid, not responding made it part of his vocabulary.
