NYC Commuters-did you go into work?

What is everyone doing that usually commutes into NYC?

My office is open...I work right near Rockefeller Center. I commute on the E which is suspended. I can drive to Hillside ave and take the F; but I don't know if I should even bother.

I've been in constant communication with my boss; we work in finance and have our close to stat today. I feel so stressed thinking I'm not there; but at the same time I don't think at almost 30 weeks pregnant I should attempt to make a 3+ hour commute! My mother took the express bus from Queens; and has been on the bus for almost 3 hours! My bladder will explode and my back would be killing me!

I was trying remote access; but I can't seem to connect-so all I can do is respond to e-mail at this point!

you did the smartest thing by staying home...dont stress.

my husband works in the city...left at 7am by car (works off of the e train so his boss picked him up since there was no E service) and it took him 2.5 hours to get there.

its insane.

i have a coworker coming from brooklyn to the bronx, but they are really checking cars on the RFK bridge so she has been sitting in traffic...she went 5 blocks in 45 minutes!

I live in queens and work in brooklyn. I offered to pick up a coworker in Astoria and it was complete madness trying to bypass the bridge traffic on Queens and Northern. I was in the car for 1.5 hours on what should;ve taken 15 minutes. I wouldnt even bother trying if I worked in NYC- and we were in the car (DH driving) and I was stressed out (I had to pee really badly lol). Make your life easy and don't bother trying and don't feel bad about it!

I work in the city and had no problem getting to work. Took the LIRR to the N train and had no problem with either. I don't think getting home will be as easy though.

How crowded was the train?? Did you have to wait a long time?

I'm thinking about trying to get to Jamaica center around 12 and hopping on a train to pen station. I can always stay at work a little late to beat the rush of people trying to get home.

i live in brooklyn and work on 38th and 6th avenue.
I took the express bus and it got me in in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. i normally take the train so i'm hoping that everything goes back to normal on Monday because i can't continue to pay $11.00 a day (good thing the buses are free this week!)

I live in Queens and took the F train in. I was able to beat the morning rush and had no problems getting on a train. I work right on Rockerfeller Plaza and it took me 30 minutes to get in.

I didn't chance it today, but I'm thinking I might tomorrow. I work in Rock Center and normally commute from Babylon, then take the E. We have no power, so we've been staying with my parents in Medford (eastern LI), so I'm much further east than normal, but not too far from the Ronkonkoma train station (about a 15 minute drive). I'm still not sure about going in tomorrow though, being 34 weeks. If I wasn't this pregnant, this wouldn't be an issue, but I'm a bit apprehensive. I figure it will easily take me close to 2.5 hrs each way and I just don't know if I can handle it. Plus, if I do it once, then I will be expected to come in, even if it was difficult. I might just wait things out until Monday and see where I stand then. It's driving me nuts though, I'm so bored, I don't think I've ever wanted to go to work so badly!

Just showed up and a train came 20 min later. Not crowded at all! I'm worried about the evening commute though!

A couple of the floors flooded as did the elevator shafts and there is no power or water. Plus there is no subway or bus service to downtown and with all the flooding they don't know when it will restored.

I live in Queens and work in NYC, and I'm working from home! I don't need to be the guinea pig that's testing whether the subways are running again. Yes, the F is running, but it's running local and I'm sure it's packed b/c it's basically the only line running.

If you can't remote in, try calling your helpdesk. Also, your company probably only has a certain number of licenses, so my guess is if you don't get on early, you'll have trouble logging in. I log in well before 9am so I know I can get in.
