not sure what to do UPDATE
No clots!! Now I have peace of mind and I didn't have to go to the hospital. Thanks for your advice
My doctors phone is down so I assume they've lost power in great neck (anyone know?)
I may be displaying symptoms of a blood clot or I may be overly paranoid. Not sure if I should brave the traffic r ight now to go to the hospital or wait a few hours to see if his phone goes back up.
My symptoms are painful swelling of the left foot. Thoughts?

Re: not sure what to do
If you're worried, I'd go to the hospital. It could be days before your dr's phones are back up. It's better to be safe and get checked out if you're worried.
That being said, I'm sure you're fine. But I'd still go see a dr to figure out what it is. Feel better!

Re: not sure what to do
This is totally my personal opinion, not based on any medical knowledge.
For me, it would depend on how bad the pain is. Swelling is very normal in pregnancy. Is it still swollen and painful after sleeping all night?
Maybe try some massaging, keeping feet up and drinking a lot of water to stay well hydrated and help with circulation.
If the pain is severe, then go to the hospital. Trust your instincts, if you think something is wrong, it probably is and its better to err on the safe side. Worst case, you will waste a few hours in the hospital and they will determine nothing is wrong and send you home which will give you peace of mind.

Definitely DON'T try massaging. Just in case it's a clot, this could dislodge it. I'm not saying it IS a clot but just in case, don't. Pregnant women are a bit more at risk for blood clots so I would be cautious. That stinks that you can't get through to your doctor. You could call the ER first and see what they advise. I would elevate your foot in the meantime. I would probably err on the side of caution and go to the ER but that's just me. Hopefully they can do a quick ultrasound and rule out a DVT. Good luck, I really hope it's nothing!

Re: not sure what to do
Go to the hospital or call your regular doctor (my regular doctor was the one who ordered the scan to check for clots initially). If you can get out of your house safely and make it to the hospital don't wait it out if you're afraid it's a clot.

Re: not sure what to do
I tried calling LIJ and their phones are down too! The foot isn't so swollen right now, it gets worse as the day goes along but it's definitely worse than the right. I can get dh to drive me but I truly feel as if it would be a precaution and that's it... grr . I have a feeling the hospital is crazy today too.

Re: not sure what to do
I would try to get it checked out if you can. As PP said. Def. do not massage it. How is the ciriculation past the point of the pain. Is there redness, heat at area of pain? those are the things to look for. but swelling and cramping are certainly normal. DRINK lots of fluid, and keep trying to get ahold of somone , or try a walk in, they can do a quick doppler to check pulses etc..

Re: not sure what to do
Thanks. I managed to get in touch with LIJ l&d (they don't play) and my doctor was there so he's sending me to a radiology place near my house this afternoon. Hopefully it's nothing!! Thanks for all of your suggestions.
