Those of you who think it is insane, do you live in Nassau or Suffolk county?

I am in Suffolk County and could not imagine spending that much money on a mortgage. We were VERY lucky we bought our house 10 years ago as $4,000 is 4x my mortage, taxes and insurance!!!

You would never be able to get a house in suffolk or nassau for that amount now (without putting a ridiculous amount down).... You are very lucky you bought when you did.....

I know!! We paid $110,000 and now we could sell for close to $400,000! INSANE!!!

why oh why couldnt I have been born earlier so I could have bought before the boom!!!

Yes 4K is a lot, but it is better than paying rent and giving someone else 12K+ a year to pay their mortgage. Even if you can't save a lot of money you will be biulding equity and getting a tax break.

I know! I kick myself all the time for not buying a co=op in 2001. I had the slary and the downpayment and I stupidly rented an apartment!!!!

not 4k on mortgage alone, but pretty close (in the high 3k range) on all combined expernses (mortgage, taxes, insurance and household bills).
