Spinoff to choosing a pediatrician...
For those of you that met yours in advance did they always want to come see the baby in the hospital? Were there any you met that WOULDN'T accept a new patient without seeing them in the hospital first?
I only ask because I am delivering at Mt. Sinai but will be looking for a Pediatrician in the Farmingdale/Bethpage/Massapequa area... I can't see a doctor from out here making a trip to Mt. Sinai.

I delivered in Huntington, and my son's Ped is in West Islip. His Ped is not affiliated with Huntington Hospital, and he had no problem accepting DS as a new patient.
I just had to have his records transferred over to the Peds office from the hospital.

We're going to use pediatricians affiliated with LIJ but I'm delivering at NYU. It's not necessary for the dr to see the baby in the hospital. The pediatrician on staff will examine the baby, and then you'll see your own pediatrician after you've both been released from the hospital.

I delivered at LIJ with DS and DD and will deliver there as well with this baby. Our pediatrician is in Huntington and is not affiliated with LIJ. After I came home, we brought them in for an appointment within the first few days.

if they aren't affiliated then you'll get the hospital peds checking the baby out and doing discharge.

Spinoff to choosing a pediatrician...
Actually our pediatricians office will not see any infants at any hospital at all. They see the baby a few days after birth in the office right away, but they don't go to the hospital. My baby will be seen by whoever is in the hospital...
