Pedicure gone wrong (kinda long and semi gross story)
I dont get pedicures, I dont like people touching my feet. I usually do them on my own. But a few days before we were heading to FL, I figured "why not?" I have read some scary things on here about pedis but again I figured, what are the chances?
Long story short, I got one and it wasnt that bad plus I loved the color I got.
She did cut the sides of my toe nails (the hangnail area) and on my big toes I flinched at the time she did it because it hurt. That night and the next 2 days, my big toes were sore in those side spots. DH said it was from them digging in where I dont normally cut.
So after the 1st day of walking ALOT all around Disney, the pain started bad on one toe on the side. And not to get too gross but there was pus and redness building up. I had 2 more days of BIG TIME walking to do.
I walked around Disney like someone who broke their ankle but I survived and when I got home I fixed it up by popping it and pouring peroxide on it and using Neosporin. It is totally better now by the way.
What went wrong?? Was it the nail places fault? Bad luck? I would want to try another pedi but now I'm even more uncomfortable.

It sounds like they definitely cut too deep. I've had them cut it down low and had it hurt for about a day after, but never like you're describing. Don't let it put you off pedicures though, they can be great! I used to not like going because I didn't like the cheese grater thing (sorry, I don't know what they call it) that they use on the bottom of your feet, but now I just tell them NOT to use it.

My podiatrist told me to never get a pedicure. They cut your nails so they look nice, not the way they are supposed to be cut. The way they cut the nail puts it right into position to become ingrown.

Did you have already an ingrown toenail that they tried to cut? It may have become infected.

No, not an ingrown nail before or after. All I keep imagining is they cut too deep with a dirty tool. But DH thinks that they went too deep and with all the walking (and probably sweating), something got into that area and it became inflammed and infected.

I get regular pedicures, but I always cut my own toenails right before going. Then I just have them file to clean it up. Maybe you can just do that. I love a good pedicure.

Re: Pedicure gone wrong (kinda long and semi gross story)
My podatrist gets heart failure about pedis. They cut your nails wrong- and it leads to ingrown toe nails. You may not have an ingrown nail now, but keep an eye on it- toenails grow slowly- so it may take some time for you to notice it's growing in wrong and getting ingrown Between that and the killer fungus I got that lead to me losing 3 toenails in a row, I will NEVER get a pedicure again. These women in these places are NOT qualified to be doing it. Maybe in some of the higher end spas, but certainly not these dime a dozen cheapo Korean places.
