Other Parents Driving your kids

Do you allow it?

Do you allow them to use different seats to what you use in your car? ie you use a five point harness or high back booster but they would only use a regular booster seat ( for kids 5 and older)

DD is 4 and so far, DH and I are the only ones that drive her. I don't feel comfortable letting anyone else drive her around yet.

Re: Other Parents Driving your kids

Only a select few ppl can drive my kids. My parents, my brother and our close friends. Last yr our baby sitter also drove them, but she is also a close family friend.

It is sooo nerve wracking. Whenever someone takes my kids without me, I always ask them to text me when they get there and when they are leaving. It just gives me peace of mind.

As far as car seats, I either have them take my car, or put the car seats in their car. I just starting putting my 5 yr old in a booster with just a seatbelt in other cars, but in my car he is still in the harness. He doesn't fight it, so I figure why not go with it. He is 5 1/2 and 45 lbs so he is def allowed to just be in a booster with a belt.

My older girls are 7 and 5 and are involved in different activities for which we carpool frequently. In my car, they're both in booster seats which use the car's seat belts, so I find no need to inspect the other moms' cars. I know they sit in boosters and that's that...

It depends who it is. Most people I know don't have the extra seat so I would provide our seat. When my parents babysit they take my son places.

Re: Other Parents Driving your kids

DS will be 6 next month and DD is 3 and we just started having other people drive them. It also depends on who...we don't allow just anybody to do it. We have a friend that live 3 houses away with kids the exact same age of mine and they go to the same school/daycare. On occassion, one of us was running late and the other did the pick up for all of the kids or one of them. When my kids are in her car, they use her carseats and vice versa. We are totally comfortable with that.

I'm pretty lax with that. I mean, my kids wouldn't be with someone I don't trust in the first place plus it's not like I'm the world's best driver or something (although most people like to think they are, lol). As long as the person does their best just like I would i.e. not texting etc. It goes without saying I'm not gonna give my kids to like some 17yo pot head or a drunk that I dragged out of the OTB midday, lol.

I only let DD drive with our sitter (who is a close family friend) who watches her 2 days/week. She also has 3 of her own kids in her SUV whenever they go out or run errands. I cannot expect her to stay confined to the home all day and never leave. It's just not realistic for us to ask that of her.
Other than her, it's only DH and I.

Same here, if I trust my kid to be with someone, I trust them to drive them.

Re: Other Parents Driving your kids

When we go out with our friends and their kids, my DS loves to be with them every second. He wants to be in the same car as them.

Sometimes we allow him to go in their car when we are all going somewhere. I trust them and feel 100% safe with them having him in their car.

Other then that, DS has only been in our car with DH or myself driving.

My mom doesn't feel comfortable driving with either my DS or my niece. She has a car seat in her car, just in case of an emergency.

I trust her to drive him as well as my brother, sister, SIL and my MIL if they had to.
