Love someone's siding...

but don't know the person! Do you think it is extremelly weird and uncalled for it I (meaning my husband, because I am too embarrassed ) went up to their door and asked what color siding/manufacturer?

I don't think it's that weird. Is this someone in your own neighborhood? Do you know anyone who does know the owner of the house?

I would just knock during the day and step back from the door. I would also go with your husband because personally, I think a couple knocking on the door is less intimidating than some strange guy (especially if there is a woman who lives there alone).

Another option would be to ask whoever is going to do your siding to take a look at the house - they might know what kind it is.

I did this when we moved into our neighborhood. I liked someones stone work and railing on their steps and wanted to take a picture of it. I knocked on their door, introduced myself, explained the situation and they were more than happy to let me take a picture.
My brother (our mason) thought I was nuts.

I have done it before. I would just go knock on the door.

I dont think its crazy. We were admiring a nearby house's renovations and the husband came home one day while we were across the street looking at their house. I told DH I was going to approach him and he told me not to, but I did anyway. He was very friendly and we had a nice discussion with him about the work they had done, the company they used, and the process. We ended up using the same company for our own renovations.

I was considering knocking on doors to ask for siding brands/colors but then the company we are using provided us with an extensive list of references including a notation of the materials used so we drove around and looked at houses with the colors we were considering. If we didnt have that list I would have knocked on doors! Message me if you want to see the list. I think we still have it somewhere.

You could also leave a note in their mailbox that you live in the area and were admiring their siding and would appreciate if they could let you know what brand/color and what company they used and if they were happy with them. Then leave a phone number and e-mail. You might get more responses
