should I be concerned??

DD is 4 months old and just recently transitioned to mainly formula bottles. she was breastfed until I had to return to work when she was 3 months old and my supply has dropped so I stopped breastfeeding this weekend and my freezer stash has almost nothing left
so...she was taking 5-6 ounce bottles every 3 hours and was sleeping 11-12 hours throughout the night - first bottle at 8 am and last bottle at 8 pm.
For the past few days she is hardly eating anything!!!
She is taking only 3-5 ounces at each feeding
for example today was
8 am - 3 ounces formula
11 - 5 ounces formula
2- 3 ounces formula
5 - 3.5 ounces formula
and her last bottle will be at 7:45 (breast milk)
should I be concerned?
should I spread out her feedings?
What is everyones 4 month old feeding schedule like??
TIA

Re: should I be concerned??

Is she starting to get teeth? Maybe her mouth is bothering her?

I am not sure. I mean she constantly has her hands and everything else she can get her hands on in her mouth but I thought that was typical for her age.
She has barely eaten again today
only 3 ounces at each of her 3 feedings so far!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

She could be teething, but it could also be the switch to all formula. It fills them up more then BM. Have you tried going 4 hours between feedings? She might just not be hungry at the 3 hour mark anymore.

My DD went from drinking 32 oz of BM a day to drinking 20oz around 4 months.. she dropped her nightime feedings and never made up for it duringthe day.. I dont think you shoudl worry .. as long as your DD is drinking 16-20 oz its fine! Their needs change.. she may be at a plateu in growth.. may be teething, the formula may fill her up more..as long as she is getthing the minimum I wouldnt worry about the reduction

I think this is what I am going to try because she still is only drinking 3-4 ounces at each 3 hour feeding. I am going to try switching to 4 hours this weekend.

Thank you
I am now keeping track of her intake and for the past 3 days it has only been around 17-18 ounces but she is still sleeping through the night 11-12 hours without waking up at all.

My LO only does about 3-4 oz every 2-4 and is 4 months... It all depends on their body, growth and weight. As long as your LO is growing, gaining weight, continues to be alert your great.

it could be the change to formula its def more filling and shes also probably getting used to the taste. i would say give her a few days.

did u just switch from bm to formula? or has she always had a lil formula?

Re: should I be concerned??

My DD is 4 months and has been formula fed since pretty much the beginning. She typically takes 3-5 oz every 4 oz, with a total of 20-24 oz per day. Sometimes that is a struggle. Ideally, she should be taking more, but she is gaining weight.
