another bottle question... or two

So I guess the two bottles I'm considering are Avent and Dr. Brown's. I know it will all depend on the baby's preference when she gets here but I have to start somewhere as far as the registry goes and I don't want to register for both.

Shoudl I start with the Dr. Brown's despite all the annoying pieces OR start with the Advent and switch to Dr. Brown's if the baby has issues with colic or acid reflux?

I'm planning to alternate between breast feeding and bottle feeding and I've heard the wide neck bottles are best for that. I really don't like them though. Can you use the standard bottle and still alternate between the nipple and the breast?

So indecisive. Would love some opinions?

ill be honest, i tried EVERY bottle before Dr Browns because i didnt want to deal with the parts. i BF and bottle-fed. Dr. Brown's were the ONLY bottles that she did not get gassy from. i tried Tommy Tippee, Playtex Drop-ins, the Medela ones, and then finally went to Dr. Browns. i honestly dont think the wide neck thing matters at all. i would probably register for a starter pack of both Avent and Dr. Browns and then decide once baby is here.

I registered for Dr Brown since everyone swears by them. I figure why chance dealing with gassy babies when I might just have to go out and get them and deal with the parts eventually. I read of ways to dishwash them so it doesnt seem do bad. I also got a few others, but small packs just in case they hate the Dr Browns. I have gift cards to use in case I need to go out and buy all new ones later.

I forget what I registered for, but I think I got 2 or 4 avent, then a starter pack of Dr. Browns and 4 of the 8 oz Dr. Browns.

i started with dr browns and switched bc of the numerous parts too ; i tried every other bottle. playtex drop ins, tomy tipee, avent, etc and i hated all of them. all if them leaked or air would come out and would squeak while ds was drinking it was so frustrating. so i finslly went back to dr browns and throw them in the dishwasher so much easier than washing them everyday for an hour

I despised Dr.Browns because of all the parts and eventually went with Playtex Ventaire, they worked great.

I started with ventaire and changed to Dr browns and they worked better for DS. The ventaire are definitely easier to clean, but there's the same number of parts for each really.

If you use Dr browns my suggestion is to dismantle all pieces when baby is done with bottle and let them soak in a tupperware of water with soap until you are ready to wash them all at once. it will keep the grime build up to a minimum.

We have Advent bottles and use the Nuk nipples to reduce the amount of air she swallows.

crashing. we registered for dr browns and born free. Noone bought us dr browns. We wound up with medela and born free. I am breastfeeding and bottle feeding. DS does well with the born free. they are a wider base, and have an extra few pieces to help with gas as well. good luck hope this helps..

ITA with all of this. We started with the ventaires but I found that when I heated bottles by putting them into a cup of hot water, the hot water would get trapped in the vent piece at the bottom and sometimes spill very hot water on me as I tipped the bottle over to start feeding! I was so scared it would hurt the baby! DD also preferred the standard bottles, not the wide-neck (we had wide-neck ventaires).

Dr. Browns aren't that bad. People complain, but if it's all you know, you just wash them and that's it. This time, I invested in the dishwasher baskets (they only hold 3 bottle parts each) and I really like them. I also got the microwave sterilizer for the Dr. Brown's this time. So far, we're going through about 10 bottles a day, maybe even more, and it hasn't been a PITA at all. I agree with making sure to rinse the bottle within a few hours of the feeding, though, otherwise it's tough to get the residue out. But that's true of any bottle.

The dr browns aren't terrible if you just throw all parts in the dishwasher. Get the special baskets for them and it becomes so simple! I can't believe I washed all the parts by hand for months!
