Nursery Set Up- Esp for Jewish Girls

Hey. So I am not super religious but do believe in some of the traditions. The way I was raised, you do not set up nursery until after the baby is born. At that point, parents/husband/etc set it up. We are not to have anything in house for baby. You can paint the room but thats about it. My mom says she will hold onto everything, wash the clothes. Is anyone else in the same shoes and how are you dealing with it?
Thanks!

I was in your shoes and survived. I had the room painted and new carpet laid maybe two weeks before the birth and that was it. I picked out a layette for Denny's which my mom kept at her house and washed after the baby was born. My mother-inlaw brought over a basinette once my daughter was born as well. Bottom line you dont need much the first few weeks all they do is eat sleep and poop. I just had necesities and I was sent a lot of gifts after the birth. Her furniture didnt arrive until 6 weeks after her births but which was fine because she left in the basinette until then. If you have any specific questions please feel free to fm.

im in the same boat as you and DH and i are not happy about it. we arent very religious and would both prefer to set up the room now but my family will not allow it! as of now, my grandma is storing everything at her house (she lives a few blocks away) and we were told when the baby arrives someone (a fmaily member) will come to our house and take care of it all. my mom has a spare set of keys and we plan to leave a layout of exactly how we want the room set up (bc im ocd about that stuff lol).
in the past, it always works out with my family...the difference is I am always the one setting up the baby rooms so i wonder who is going to do it for me....but if family says they will handle it, just trust them Chat Icon

My sister waited until after the baby was born too. Everything was shipped to her in-laws and then moved into her house following the birth. Everything was fine and she had no issues.

However, DH and I decided to break tradition though, and will be setting up the nursery pre-baby. We live in the city, and our new building has annoying delivery rules, so we just thought it would be too much of a headache to do all that stuff with a newborn.
