Spin off- RNP and flat head?

Anyone think there is any correlation? After DS had his plagiocephaly issue, the more moms's I speak to who child was in it, had a flat head issue too. Do you think it is just coincidental, given that babies are on their backs more these days, or do you think the RNP is to blame?

Just curious what your thoughts were.

I think it's because babies are on their back. My neurologist said that's the reason he sees more.

Spin off- RNP and flat head?

I don't think its the rock and play specifically, just the fact that they are on their back so much. My DS has a flat head which has been getting better on it's own but is still not perfect.. We did use the Rock and Play periodically when he was younger but he definitely did not use it enough to be the cause of his flat head.

I 100% think its because they sleep on their backs now...

Even my mom pointed out that years ago you didn't really see babies who had flat heads...we were all put to sleep on our bellies.

Laying flat on the back for hours at night can definitely cause a flat head on an infant. My first son starting getting a flat head...we started placing him at alternating end of the crib and it helped round it out.

And as sad as this fact is...babies who are in orphanages for their infant years often develop flat heads because they lay on their backs for hours without being held (not all orphanages of course, typically in countries that don't have adequate staffing and too many kids).

I 100% think its due to sleeping on their backs. I used the R&P for the first 5 months. I only let him sleep overnights in it, and I had him sleep on his stomach in the P&P next to me during the day. I also bought the boppy head rest with the circle in the middle. I had one in his carseat, one in his swing etc. He was never flat on his head during the day. Everyone always tells me how round his head is. Personally I think the boppy head rest should be on everyone's list. It was great alternative so they aren't laying flat when your awake.

It's sleeping on their backs now! I don't think it has anything to do with the RnP. That just seems to be the popular mode of infant sleeping.
