I know this has been beaten to death- tip for title closer- BUT
this is for a refi- and the person is coming to our house. I don't live on LI or NYC but am in the metro area- and I'm not sure what to do. I don't know if the situation's different because we don't have to go anywhere... TIA.

Re: I know this has been beaten to death- tip for title closer- BUT
it's not a tip
it's their fee- they do not get paid if you don't "tip" them
it's common practice and your attorney or the bank attorney should tell you how much the check needs to be written for

Re: I know this has been beaten to death- tip for title closer- BUT
I work for an attorney's office. The fee for the title closer is disclosed up front in our retainer letter to our client and is then included in the estimated closing statement that is provided before we close. We do not consider this a "tip" and is expressed as customary. We recommend between $200-$300.

We didn't get an attorney, but we got a letter from the attorney representing our bank. There was no info there- I am going to look over the documents to see if they give an amount.

We just closed on a ReFi and the Title Company sent an Attorney to the house to handle the closing. We did not tip the Attorney. I actually asked this question when speaking to the Loan Officer and she told me not to tip the Attorney.

I have never heard of tipping the bank attorney- they get $750- $800 to be there
the person we are talking about tipping is a title closer

We are closing on a refi this month, when I spoke to the person who called me yesterday, I asked what I needed to bring with me, any checks, money or what. They told me to only bring my ID. This is for VA refi though, not sure if that makes a difference.

Yes, I know you are not supposed to tip the bank attorney. This attorney was sent to us through the title company. So although the person was contracted from the Title Company I was instructed not to tip them. This was not a Title Closer but an Attorney working for the Title Company.
ETA: I would just get clarification from the ReFi closing people who will actually be coming to your house to close the loan--An Attorney or a Title Closer.

Re: I know this has been beaten to death- tip for title closer- BUT
This is what I do for my side job, I work for title companies as an independent contractor. I appear at the borrowers home and notarized the documents and also ensure that all the documents are accurate and legally correct. I have also done refinances for properties in other states...I have done refi closings for Quicken, Wells Fargo and Citibank...
I am not supposed to accept a tip as I am paid a flat rate from the title company...it is a cute gesture though, I had one last month in Lindenhurst and the husband tried to slip me a $20 bill but I said no thanks...I get paid pretty well to travel and conduct all these closings at borrowers homes, it paid for my wedding after only 6 months..so trust me...we definitely do not need tips!!
