Ahhhh...why are my wood floors always dirty?
I don't get it. I use a regular mop and a steam mop and no matter what....I can take a wet paper towel and black will come up. Any advice?

Re: Ahhhh...why are my wood floors always dirty?
No advice! The cleanest people I know (MIL and my Sister) say the same thing. I think because it's wood, or any hard surface really, there is dust. Always.
So maybe use a dust mop daily in between your regular routine?
I've been doing this and have noticed a change. Not a huge change, but a change.
When I had my apartment and it was all rugs (just the kitchen was tile) my socks stayed bright white all the time. Now that I have only hardwood, my socks get dirty. And I mop the floors 2x a week... the dust mop helps though

Are your floors stained? It might be the color coming off.

Re: Ahhhh...why are my wood floors always dirty?
My hard wood floors always looked dirty and it drove me nuts! No matter what I did, or what I cleaned them with. Then my MIL told me to get Rejuevenate at Home Depot - it made a HUGE difference. They look clean for a long time.

Same over here. I have no idea why people think wood floors are easier to clean. I feel like it takes forever to go over every room with the bona dry cloth and then the wet cloth. Vacuuming seems much easier...
I'm going to try some of these suggestions.

gabbygirl, it sounds like your floors were stained and either a) the sealant/clear wear layer has worn down or b) ummm...no, there's no 'b'...unless there never was a clear sealant applied.

Are the floors waxed? I grew up with waxed floors, where a guy would come over to re-wax every 2 weeks or so. I could not just walk around in white socks b/c the wax got on everything. My mom loved those floors, though.
