Can teeth interfere with thumbsucking?

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question! I do realize plenty of toddlers and babies with teeth do suck there thumbs, I'm just desperate to figure out what's up with DD's lack of sleep lately.

DD is 5 months and got her two bottom teeth in a few weeks ago. Lately she has been so tough at night. She goes to bed around 8 and wakes at 10-11. After I nurse her she'll go back down but is up within a half hour. We go through this cycle over and over. It seems she only wants to sleep on me. I haven't seen her suck her thumb lately- in fact when I go in and she's crying she's usually trying to suck on her toes. I'm wondering if she hasn't figured out how to suck her thumb without being bothered by the teeth and so she suddenly can't comfort herself.

Sorry this turned out so long but did anyone go through something like this?
