I have to be honest I am not really into doing any of the birthing classes, but i would like to learn infant CPR. Anyone know of any classes like that?

Re: Did u take any classes?
i plan on taking this class offered at LIJ....
These classes are for first-time expectant parents who have never attended a course in childbirth education. These sessions focus on controlled breathing patterns, relaxation, anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and labor. Anesthesia and pain relief options are also covered. Class includes a tour of the maternity unit and a free breastfeeding class (given at another time).
may or may not be a waste, but as a ftm i figure it cant hurt! plus we are doing the three weeknight session instead of the one day...so if i hate it after session one, i just wont go back

i enjoyed it. my mom was a labor and delivery nurse and suggested it because she saw so many women wind up with a c-section for the sole reason that they weren't breathing/pushing properly and said it was sad to see. of course a c-section for a medical reason is one thing... but if it's something i can prevent, then i want to do whatever i can. she watched the video of my sister's labor and thinks thats why she wound up with a C. also she said she thought it would be beneficial for my dh - to just be clued in as to what to expect. we did a one day class at the hospital. there was a girl there for her 2nd time, she took it as a refresher and said it really helped her a lot the 1st time. she did have an epidural but the thing is, you need to get TO the epidural. epi's can slow down labor progression so you don't want to get them too early, and she said the breathing techniques she learned in lamaze really helped her a lot. although, she did say that she didn't remember much from class, because she was in so much pain - but her dh remembered and was a great coach bc of it, and she was able to mimick him. so i'm hoping dh paid attention

I offer infant child CPR classes. I also cover some newborn safety issues in the class as well. I am a labor and delivery nurse, and offer these classes on the side. My website is www.babybreaths.net. I am available for group or private classes

We took a newborn class which was a big waste of time since the person hosting spoke all about bfing. Something I am not doing and didn't need a class on ! And we took Lamaze. I felt the Lamaze was quite helpful. The nurse who hosted was amazing and it went very fast for a 9-5 class.

MrsKelly-that's really great to hear! I actually watched a Lamaze video-didn't take an actual class yet; but it was very informative! Also mentioned not getting the epidural I think until 5cm (i have to look back at my notes) and some other pain management options until getting an epidural. Did they do the whole "he he he" then "he he hoo" breathing? The video taught that; but I thought I read they were moving away from that type of breathing b/c of hyperventilating?

Re: Did u take any classes?
yes, they went over a few different breathing techniques... they didn't say anything about changing them due to hyperventilating and my mom never said anything about that either. and my goal is to make it to 5cm without the epi.
