ID bands for newborns?
Has anyone heard of non-removable ID bands you can put on the baby yourself the moment it is born? Thanks.

Non removable? Like tattoos/stickers? The hospital puts a security ankle band on immediately after birth that matches your own, but you take that off when you go home.

No, not a tattoo or ink blot. I heard about a band that cannot be removed by anyone else while the baby is in the hospital. I got vague information so I'm sorry I can't be more specific.

The hospital puts likea baby lo jack on the baby. Ds1 was at Good Sam and they put it on his ankle and ds2 was at Stony Brook and it was on his umbilical cord stump. Both hospitals removed them when I was already to walk out the door and checked out. Only the nurse is able to remove it or else an alarm will go off.

Re: ID bands for newborns?
the bands are placed so tightly that thereis no way you can get it off without cutting it. The band that goes on the baby ankle- aka baby lo jack can be taken off but i can tell you that i grabbed ds the wrong way and moved it and it set teh alarm off and had securty adn thenurses running into my room. dont worry, doesnt hurt them, but their bands are not going anywhere..

I don't know where but I did hear of the band falling off. I didn't have a problem with DD and I figure it's pretty uncommon so I'm not really worried about it. I would be curious to see this product though if anyone knows of it.

I've never heard of the bands the hospital uses falling off without the alarms going off as a result. I don't think you have to worry about making your own security measures. If you're worried about it, call the hospital in advance and get assurance. Hospitals take SUPER precautions about newborns.
