Disappearing Veins
When I started all this 2 years ago, there was zero trouble getting into my veins. I had some in both arms that were accessible. Now I have nothing but tiny ones and (I guess) deep ones on the right, and they keep working this one poor vein on the left. There was a ton of deliberation about it when they were putting my IV in yesterday. I'm worried this one will collapse too and I won't have any left.
Is this worry legitimate? Anyone have no vein trouble and then become a difficult patient for blood draw? How'd the staff handle it?

i have bad veins...they can never get to them
the nurses try but usually the doc comes and does it
i have one spot in my right arm they use
few times when they did not get any from there they used my hand which flipping hurt

My husband got weekly blood tests for a year. The veins in his arms started to scar so they started using the veins in his hands. It's also possible to use veins in your feet. I wouldn't worry too much. The nurses are trained in finding a way in!

Is it different people who drew your blood previously? I always found it depends on the person. I had a few people tell me my veins were hiding  and it was nearly impossible- but MOST are able to get it really quick in one shot.

Oh I have a whole parade of people sticking me: various nurses and techs @ Cornell, whoever works at Sunrise the day I go. Yesterday was at NY Presbyterian, when a gaggle of nurses had a conference about my IV. I know my right arm has definitely gotten tougher. I used to be able to see a big one there, and now I can't. Like I said, I have a bull's eye on the left where they all use the same spot.

They always want to go into my hand for the IV. I see stars. It's the one thing in all of this that physically hurts so bad I cry. I beg them to put it into the arm, and sometimes I get lucky.
