Earrings for infection-prone lobes?

I have an infection in one of my lobes, probably from wearing crummy earrings. I don't have a lot of gold earrings and I wanted to know, for anyone who's prone to this, what kinds do you wear?

Thanks!

Earrings for infection-prone lobes?

I get an allergic reaction in my ears when I wear posts, cheap earrings, or fish hooks. The only earrings I can wear with no issues at all are hoops in either sterling silver or white/yellow gold. I can wear hoops all day every day with no issues. An hour with anything else? My ears are itchy and red.

I've heard putting clear nail polish on the post or wire will eliminate this, but I haven't tried it. When my ears get red and itchy, I swab with peroxide or rubbing alcohol and I'm good for a while.

i can only wear 14k gold or platinum or sterling silver. the best are big gold 14k hoops that are light weight and not heavy- or my big pearls with sterling posts and sterling backs.

What a travesty, I'm going to have to buy all new earrings in 14k gold. Chat Icon

Interesting you mention fish hooks because I had trouble with those most of all. I'm cleaning with peroxide and putting a regular straight stud through once a day to make sure the hole doesn't close over.

I do have two pairs of gold hoops, so I guess I'll stick to those for a while. Thanks ladies!
