hallway has no light...need a solution
i live in a second floor apartment. the entry way while walking up to my apartment door has no light. its pitch dark and very hard to see what i'm doing...especially with DS and carrying all our bags. the outlet is at the bottom of the stairs so even if i plus in a light there i would have to come back down the stairs to shut it off. right now there is a sensor light at the bottom of the stairs, but #1 i have to walk downstairs to activate it and #2 its not bright enough.
any suggestions??

I don't remember where I saw it (possibly Rite Aid or CVS), but they sell these round lights that you stick on the wall and push them to turn on/off. They're battery powered.

Another sensor light upstairs would be the only solution I can think of. Even a lamp in the hallway - as cheesy as it sounds a lamp with Clap On Clap Off so you dont have to go back and shut a switch?

Re: hallway has no light...need a solution
I have one of these, and it's bright and works well.
We also have the tap lights from Target under my DD's loft bed (dark under there with the playhouse curtains on it). They are LED and are bright, and they stick on the wall. They are small and silver so they don't stick out like a sore thumb too bad. Maybe put a couple along the wall on the stairs?

Re: hallway has no light...need a solution
thanks guys. there is a sensory light at the bottom of the stairs cause that's the only outlet. and the push light or pull string won't work cause i'll still have to go back and shut it off. but maybe the clapper will work if i plug it in to the downstairs outlet?

Would your landlord consider running an electrical line that would control a switch at the bottom and the top of the stairs ? Since there is an outlet already at the bottom, it shouldn't be difficult to pull another line off of it to feed a switch.
I have that in my hall stairs - the light is in the ceiling in the middle, and the switch is at the bottom and the top.

Can you plug it in downstairs on a timer? We have a lamp in our LR on a timer, it's on from 6p to 11p.

Iansmommy, this is a code issue and you don't need to do anything other than contact the landlord and tell them you "need a light for your safety and convenience per NYS code". There should be a switch at both the top and bottom of the stairs.

we got special outlets by our stairs that have LED lights in them that go on when it's dark. They are really bright!!! It certainly won't compare to a light in the ceiling or a lamp, but you don't have to turn it on and off and you will definitely be able to see the steps.
