weight gain

I am 19 weeks and 5 days. I've been having a great pregnancy so far. I lost 3lbs in my first tri b/c of nausea. I went to the ob today, and I'm only up 1/2 a pound. The nurse said that's great, b/c the weight will come later, but when the OB came in, she kind of reprimanded me for not gaining. The baby looks good and she is measuring exactly to my EDD. The ob said she want's to see a weight gain at my next visit and was questioning me on whether I eat or not!!
I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks which mainly consist of a greek yogurt or 2 small apples.
I'm annoyed b/c I go out of my way to stay away from crap like ice cream and McD's. I do have an occasional slice of pizza but has anyone else been "spoken to" about not gaining enough weight?
I am of average weight for my height.

I gained 2lbs (@20w) and my doctor was very happy about that. I am overweight to begin with though, so they didn't want me gaining too much. Your body will gain what it needs to gain! You're fine!!!

Chat Icon It's true! Drs are crazy!

At my last appt at 20w1d, I was up 1 pound over my prepregnancy weight and the dr didn't say anything one way or another.

She said I would probably gain 20-25 pounds during my whole pregnancy, and I was told I'd gain about 1 pound per week, beginning at 20w. So I'm right on target. Sounds like you are, too.

Re: weight gain

3 weeks ago at my 16 week check up I gained 8 lbs in total so far and the doctor told me to watch it... I said I had fruit for breakfast and he cut me off saying to stay away from fruit because its high in sugar ... So what am I supposed to eat lettuce and vegetables all day?

Some fruits are higher in sugar than others. Stay away from grapes, melons and berries. Things like apples and pears have lower sugar content. That being said, you'd have to eat a TON of fruit to gain 8 pounds from the fruit.

Also try yogurt, whole grain cereals, multrigrain english muffins w pb, eggs, etc. Try eating a little protein with each meal. It keeps you full longer and is healthy.

I was an average weight when I found out I was pregnant... I'll be 20 weeks on Monday and I'm just under 10lbs gained. My doctor said that's perfectly fine. If you're eating, getting enough fluids and the baby is looking healthy I wouldn't stress. You could have a completely different doctor who would say something completely different to you.
