Ovary Turning/Twisting?

Has this ever happened to anyone?

It's 7dpo of my canceled cycle due to OHSS. I started having intense pains in my right ovary this morning. I have a bunch of cysts and my RE now thinks my right ovary is beginning to turn/twist. What the frigg? Did this happen to anyone? How long did it take to resolve itself? I'm waiting on a call from my RE with my blood results, but hey want me on bedrest for 3 days.

this didn't happen to me but i was at high risk for it since i had mild OHSS and enlarged ovaries. i actually couldn't go to the gym for the entire first trimester of my pregnancy because of the risk of it happening. it was also pretty painful just to walk due to the bloating and enlarged ovaries and fluid retention. the blood flow to the ovaries only goes through one main artery so if it twists it could cut off blood supply which would be bad news and also very painful. hopefully that's not the case for you, good luck!
taking it easy and bed rest will def help. drink a lot of liquid with electrolytes and stay hydrated!!

I've gained 7lbs in 3 days and I am SO uncomfortable! I've had some dull cramping throughout the last couple of days but I'm in so much pain today. I just researched it and it says that if it twists and isn't corrected, that I could lose my ovary. Chat Icon

A twisted ovary is very serious and dangerous - but also extremely rare. It will not resolve itself, but instead requires surgery to right to the ovary. It must be caught very early or it can cut off blood supply, causing you to lose your ovary.

If you're at risk for OHSS you should not be bending, lifting or carrying anything heavy and definitely no working out. Any of these movements can cause the ovary to twist.

Please make sure your dr is monitoring you closely.

Thank you! After reading up on it, I now realize how serious it is. Chat Icon

Why my RE didn't really warn me of this is beyond me... she was very nonchalant about it and it's actually pissing me off right now. I have a 21mo DS who is super active, so when they told me that I had OHSS, they NEVER said no lifting, bending, etc. All they told me was to limit my water and sodium intake. Naturally, being a SAHM to a very active toddler has me running all over the place. They now have me on bedrest for the next couple of days in hopes that it won't continue to turn.

do you def have OHSS? i gained 9lbs in 3 days and my Dr still didn't say i def had OHSS. i still believe i had mild OHSS though based on my symptoms, while my Dr said it was mild at best. he didn't even restrict me to bedrest although he said to take it easy and stay hydrated with electrolytes. btw the symptoms i had post retrieval were NOTHING compared to what i had after BFP, so if they cancelled your transfer it really is for the better. implantation can def be jeopardized if your e2 is very high and a BFP would put you at greater risk for worse OHSS symptoms since HCG can trigger or aggravate it.

Yes, they say I have a mild case... I guess my BW showed it? IDK.

They canceled my cycle before I triggered and they think that's definitely my saving grace. I would have had it much worse if I did trigger. I O'd on my own though... magically. My body is extremely confused. lol

Re: Ovary Turning/Twisting?

After my transfer and I got my BFP i was in such severe pain my RE examined me then sent me to the hospital. They did very thorough ultrasounds to check blood flow to the ovaries b/c if there is a torsion or twist blood flow will be compromised. It turns out i had a cyst burst and had ohss. It was so painful i needed to take painkillers. After i came home from the hospital 24 hours later i was on light rest for a few days. My advice....if you really are in pain push for your RE to see you. Feel better!!
