I think I forgot how this all works

My husband and I did a successful IVF cycle last year after a few years of infertility and failed IUIs and now have two wonderful babies but we are trying to see what conceiving again would look like. We have 5 frozen embryos but don't really understand how a FET works

Since they aren't retrieving eggs would I still need to do the whole shots/meds thing? Do they "defrost" all five embryos? What if they defrost 2 and they aren't good quality or don't defrost well?

I really appreciate any insight or advice!

For my FET I was only on estrace to build up my lining...once it was at the thickness they wanted I started progesterone for 5 days...after that it was the transfer...they thaw as many as you will transfer and see how they look...it takes about an hr to defrost...if they do not look good they will defrost them one at a time until they have the # they need...they only freeze blasts so they should be of good quality.

Thank you! Knowing what to expect will make it easier should we decide to move forward.

Every doctor has a different FET protocol. Maybe you would be on lupron ... maybe not... Maybe you would be on delestrogen (intramuscular) .. maybe not ... but regardless it's way less tedious and much more manageable than a fresh cycle!!

They defrost only the embryos that are needed. Do you know the quality of the ones you have frozen? We thawed all of mine at the same time for PGD. They were all day 5 frozen blasts. Two did not survive the thew, but they were grade C. The embryologist told me at that quality they only have a 30% survival rate. However, my grade As and Bs all survived.
