Do 7 year olds and 5 year olds have similar interests?

Do 7 year olds and 5 year olds have similar interests?
Do you think a 7 year old and a 5 year old should have enough similar interests to be very close? Or would this vary greatly among children?

I think it would vary between kids. They might be close for a while and then something silly could come between them like any relationship. If they have things in common then it could work out well. I think they also have a greater chance of being friends if the 5 year old is closer to being 6 and the 7 year old just turned seven.

I think they do but sometimes the older kid just doesn't want a 5 year old around simply b/c the 5 year old is a younger kid. In other cases the older kid loves to play teacher to the younger one.

Siblings? I have 7 and 5 year old girls. They are completely different personality/temperament. The older one is very girly and pretty much a saint on Earth. The younger one is very wild, into boy things, and can be difficult to get along with (at home, at least). Yet, they play together all day long (and fight too!). Despite the differences, they have a lot of similar interests...arts and crafts, putting on "shows," Barbies, etc. Also, 5 and 7 year olds don't stay 5 and 7 forever...the situation's always going to be dynamic.

I have 5 and 7 yr old boys and have similar feelings. My boys have a lot of differences in personality. Very different kids. They play together at lot and fight a lot. The 5 year old interests are typically whatever his big brother likes. He skipped a lot of things kids his age like b/c he is trying to be like big brother. They both like video games, board games, similar toys (star wars, legos, building toys) and lots of sports. Just the interest is in very different ways which really reflect their personalities...one more serious, one more easy going....also due to age - the 7 yr old gets things easy and can do things slightly better (sports video games) so that causes some fights....Also - they weren't always as close as they are now at 5 and 7 - I think it wasn't until the younger one was about 3.5/4 did big brother accept little brother as more of a friend than a nuisance.
