When would you call the pediatrician to set everything up

I already know what practice I plan to use.

When do you think I should call them?

Im not sure if I am answering your question exactly..maybe I misunderstood but i just took the baby basics class at my hospital Good Sam and they said how it works is you choose your pediatrician..im sure they ask you when your due date is and take some info for the file. When you check in to the hospital, they will have a form you complete with your pediatricians information. Right after you give birth, they contact the pediatrician for you and he will come down (if he has privledges) and check the baby over and come and speak with you. Babys blood work is also taken and sent to NYS which you will get results of probally on your first visit with baby to the doctor. And they also said that your obgyn does the circumcision if its a boy and you would like one. I was surprised at that. (but of course, for religious reasons if you are having a ceremony at home or something, that is your choice).

It depends on your practice and if you need to interview them. For my 1st DD we interviewed the ped, decided we would go with her and gave them a little info when we were there. Other than that i told the hospital who her ped was and they called when she was born and she came to check our DD out. With my next one, I just filled out the paper at the hospital to have my ped called and she came to the hospital and we filled out the paperwork at the first appointment at 5 days old.

I asked the pediatrician I picked - they told me I don't have to set up anything in advance with them, just tell the hospital they are my ped.

You tell the hospital which pediatrician you're using when you give birth and they inform your pediatrician that a new patient was born Chat Icon.

You don't have to do anything before that.

The day you are leaving hospital LOL.

I called my friends Ped the day i was leaving and made an appointment for later that week to check the baby.
After that i filled the form in for the hospital with his details.

I would call just to make sure they're accepting new patients. We pre-registered with our ped online and then just need to call to make that first appt after the baby is born.

I called 2 practices and they both said to just tell the hospital and they will notify them and they will come see the babies within 24 hours.

I am delivering at Good Sam also, and when I met with the pediatrician, I was told the same thing. That all I have to do is provide the hospital with the name of the pediatrician and the hospital would contact them and take care of everything.
