Re: spotting?
I looked into this because I was spotting toward the beginning of my pregnancy (different reason though - I was very early on in my pregnancy - I thought I was about 2 weeks further along than I actually was - and it actually may have been implantation bleeding or related to the stretching of the uterus). In regards to what you are asking about, the books I have did say it was common after sex (I have "What to Expect..." and "Pregnancy for Dummies"). I also think I read an article on Babycenter.com about it that said it was normal. If the spotting doesn't subside or continues to concern you, I would call your doc just to be on the safe side. I did just to be sure and they did an ultrasound.
ETA - I found this on Babycenter.com:
What can cause spotting? Because of an increase in the blood supply to your cervix and greater blood flow to the area, you might spot after having a Pap smear, an internal exam, or sex.

Re: spotting?
I spotted after sex before i knew i was pregnant. My doc said this is very normal bc at that point the cervix is extremely tender and soft. I am now 17 weeks and it never happened again after that. If you are concerned of course call your doctor.

Re: spotting?
Yes, when I was pregnant with Christopher, I started spotting at 3 months. The first question the dr. asked me was whether or not I had had sex recently. I had never even taken that into consideration.
