BF'ing/pumping question

DS 2 is 11 days old. 90% percent of the time he has only been nursing one side and then will fall asleep. I try to wake him and offer the other side but it doesnt happen most times. Would you pump the other side or just offer it first the next session? I do need to build a freezer supply so I've been pumping both sides after his first morning session.

BF'ing/pumping question

I would definitely pump the other side to maintain your supply. Also, here are some tips that worked for me to wake up my sleepy babies:
-strip him down to his diaper
-turn on the lights
-tickle his cheeks, chin, neck
-gently blow on his face and neck
-adjust his position
-hold him up in front of you so his legs dangle for a few seconds
-wipe a wet washcloth or a wipe all over his face, neck, and chest

HTH! I always learned it's best to do whatever it takes to wake them up and make then finish, or it can throw off their whole eating schedule.

Thank you. I've tried most of those but I'll keep trying. My older son always took both sides so this was new for me.

What she said. Also, just wanted to add that I pumped whatever boob DD didnt drink from (&sometimes the one she did drink from) after every feedig. It wasnt practical to hook up to reg pump every time, ESP for short pumping "sessions" after a feeding so I got a medela manual pump. A little annoying to Pump by hand but more convenient/realistic to do when home alone with LO. By doin this I not only established/maintained an awesome supply but I created a crazy freezer stash! DH tells me I'm a breast milk hoarder! Hahah! I currently have 4 -5oz bottles in my fridge & probably around 60 5oz bags in the freezer. I'm never going to use it all but it's nice to know its there if I need it. I'm actually looking into donating it.
