Birds on my lawn!!
Dh put down seed a few times already and nothing grows b/c the birds are eating it. When I pull up to my house, thre are literally 50 birds on my lawn!!
We put up feeders, bought a bobbly head owl thing, and still, they do not stop!
I want GRASS!!
Any ideas?

Re: Birds on my lawn!!
I alwayssy put down 3 times the amount of seed that is need for an area....one seed for the birds...one seed that doesnt germinate and one seed that will become my nice green lawn!!
Do you water really good after seeding? Watering helps the seed go into the ground and the birds arent going to dig to get seed.

Re: Birds on my lawn!!
Straw on top will work best. Birds don't like the stuff. Straw will decompose and enrich your soil, but you will have to keep it moist for the first few days to prevent it from blowing away. With decent weather it should only take about a week before you will see the grass starting to come up. You might want to wait until the weather cools just a bit more. It's suppose to be in the 80's next week. New grass grows best in cooler weather, 60's or lower 70's as a high.

do you cover one layer of seed with top soil? it helps the seed grow and will help prevent the birds from getting at it.

We had that problem the 1st time and then the 2nd time we covered the seed with peat moss (very cheap and works great). Just make sure there isnt seed showing through and the birdies will never know the seed is there.

I had the same problem. I bought a couple of bags of top soil and spread it out over the seeded area. Still some birds but definitely not as many.
