Hardwood floors - colors
We currently have hardwood floors in our entire house. We are adding another floor to the house and wanted hardwood there as well. Should we go with the same hardwood we have, which we like, or another that is a different color, that we like better? Can you have two different color hardwoods in one house without it looking weird?

Of course you can - you don't have to have the same tile in the bathroom as the kitchen.
Go with what you like - some wall colors or decorating style's might work better with different floor finishes.

You can do anything you want...I actually think it would look really nice and I agree that it can open the possibilities of changing up the decorating style on each floor. If you love it, I say go for it and be confident in your decision.

In my parents house, the wood floors downstairs are dark, but my sister's room upstairs is light. You really would not even realize when in her room that it is not the same floor or unmatched. I think it is fine as long as you are able to make a smooth transistion between the 2 floors.

Re: Hardwood floors - colors
The stairs leading to the new floor will also be hardwood, as will the hallway where you enter the new floor. How do you combine the two colors - either the original floor and stairs won't match, or the new floor and stairs won't match.

Why don't you get the old floors re-stained to match the color of the new floors. We got our hardwood floors stained a new color and they look so much better!

Re: Hardwood floors - colors
Thanks for your suggestions everyone. Someone else suggested that I keep the hallway the same as the stairs, and do whatever color we want in all the bedrooms. That way the stairs and hall will match. I think we might go with that.
