Getting a mortgage while on maternity leave..
Hypothetical question- How hard is it to get a mortgage when 1 of the signors is on UNPAID maternity leave? I did a few google searches and it looks like a few banks in the past denied women loans if they were on temporary leave without pay but they supposedly can't do this anymore.
Just wondering if anyone here had any experience with that.

I'm not sure about obtaining a mortgage, but I was told we had to close on our house before I went out on unpaid leave.

It's based on how much the people on the mortgage make. So if you are making zero, you could probably get approved, but for much less than with 2 incomes. The only way it could work is if you went for a mortgage approval and had 2 of your last pay stubs- but it would have to be recent ones.
I know we were looking to refinance while I was on unpaid Maternity and couldn't. I didn't have recent pays tubs

When we had purchased it was after I had my 1st DD and wasn't working. We had to be approved on my DH's income and they had used an average of my past income but that had been very small. Your best bet would be to ask your mortgage person directly. They would be able to give you the best answer!
