18 month old obessed with light switches
Is this normal! From the moment I wake up my son wants all the lights turned on then off then on then off- all throughout the house. If I dont do it for him- he grunts ( not speaking yet) and points till I do it. i would be fine if it was a few times a day- but he wants it done all day!! any tips LOL :)

I wouldn't say she's obsessed with them but DD does love flipping the switch on and off. Anytime I carry her past one she wants to flip the switch and once is never enough! Since it hasn't become and issue I usually let her, if time permits. If we're rushing out the door then it's not happening and she has to deal. I really try not to cave into every tantrum she throws, I'm afraid we'll create a monster!

Yeah, normal. I think you have two choices here: 1. Refuse to switch the lights, watch tantrums. 2. Switch the lights, ride out the phase.
Sometimes my 22 month old gets like this with the lights or various other things...such as the bookshelf he literally throws every book out of all day long. Both are phases and I find distraction works pretty well. In the case of the shelf, I've decided to ignore and ride it out...praise God, it seems to be ending(no jinx, no jinx, no jinx ). With the lights, since I'm the one who has to do it, I'll distract and if that doesn't work I just let him throw the tantrum--he'll snap out of it eventually.

My DD (just turned 19 mo) is obsessed with on/off. We give her a plastic flashlight and that seems to satisfy her.

DS is 2 3/4 now and is excited if he uses his step stool he can do it himself.

Yup, COMPLETELY normal imo. When DS became obsessed I started to tell him that Mr. Sun is out so we don't need the lights. Then when it got dark I would let him turn it on and tell him that its dark out and we have to leave them on to see. Delt with the tantrums and he eventually learned.

AJ loved messing with the lgihts. Everytime we passed one (and we were holding her) she wanted to flip it.
Thankfully we dont hold her that much anyway but we got other on off toys for similar reactions. She just liked the idea of light and her control of it.

yup my DS loved them too at that age...totally normal. He still loves anything to do with electricity and wires. Now that he's 5, he loves to draw roads and houses and always makes sure to include power lines outside the houses and fans, TV's and other electrical items inside

OMG that is so cute :) I love that he includes in his pictures :) I bet my son will do that as well when he is older. Ohh and i forgot to mention he loves SHOEs too! Go figure.

My 17 month old loves light switches. He points and say "Da lie"(the light) and plays with the few he can reach.

My son is 3.5 and still likes turning off and on the lights. He will even point out to us in the stores if one of the lights are out, and will procede to tell the cashier that "Someone needs to fix that light up there".
I think it is normal too!
