Anyone planning NOT to have baby sleep in your bedroom?

I really thought I wanted my baby to sleep in the bassinet part of the pack n play at first, but DH and I set it up last night and it doesn't really fit in our tiny bedroom. It takes up all available floor space towards the foot of the bed so DH would have to crawl over me to get in and out of bed. Also the bassinet 'mattress' feels so flimsy compared to her crib mattress. We don't think we want to spend $100 plus on a standard bassinet since babies grow out of them so fast. We had figured with the pack n play at least we could use it as a play yard as she gets older. So now I'm thinking maybe we should just try starting her out in her crib and if I hate it we can always run out and buy a bassinet that fits in our room. Any BTDt moms who had their babies sleep in their own room right away with success?

I should probably add that for the first three weeks or so DH will be staying home from work, and he's used to being up all night due to his work schedule, so the plan for the first few weeks was to have her in her crib anyway so he can check on her since he'll be up. After he goes back o work I was going to bring her into the bedroom with me at night, but maybe by then she'll be used to her crib anyway and content in there?

I used a bassinet for DD but when I have my next LO I plan to use the FP Rock n Play Sleeper. It doesn't take up a lot of space and its portable.

I never purchased a PnP because we didn't have a need for it. When DD was at the age where a play yard was necessary we purchased two Summer Infant Sure & Secure baby gates and created a rectangle with the foam squares. This gave DD a lot more space than the PnP.

ETA: Another reason I didn't put DD in the crib from day 1 is because her room is too small to have a glider so it was just easier for the night feedings to have her next to me.

Our DS went straight to his crib from the hospital (and I was a c-section/ breastfeeding mom) b/c we also had a small room at the time. It worked for us. Now we have plenty of space but I am hoping to do the same with DS2.

I'm on the fence. I just dn't see the point in a bassient or rocker if the baby is going to grow out of it so fast. It would be nice though to have the baby right beside me for feedings/just to check on. But I'm aiming to do the feedings in the nursery anyway; as well as the diaper changes. DH wants to put the baby in it's crib right away...we'll see how what happens as the day gets closer. There's a little bit of space beside my bed for a bassient; but just don't know what we'll do yet.

I registered for a PNP and might put LO in the PNP to sleep, but our room is small and not much room for the PNP so I might/ probably will just put LO in the crib to begin with. The room is right next to ours and i think it will just be easier.

Are you BFing or FFing? I EBF DD, and having her so close by made it 1000x easier. If you plan to FF, you have to get up anyway so I don't think it makes as much of a difference.

Can you borrow a bassinet or buy one on one of the FB parent buy/sell groups? If not, ITA with the Rock and Play sleeper idea.

We used the FP Rock n Play sleeper in our room since DD's bedroom is on a different floor than ours in our home. She was actually in it for over 9 months. Our plan is to have DS in our room in that for at least the first 3 months. It's super portable so it's great if you're sleeping on the couch, too, in the living room.

Is there a fan in your nursery? My understanding (and it's just from what our peds have told us, not from first-hand knowledge since I'm not a doctor) is that it's helpful for parents to sleep in the same room as their newborn for the first 3 months to help regulate their breathing and be close by as a help to prevent SIDS but that air circulation in the baby's room is extremely important so if there's a fan in the room with the crib, that's great too. Other things like a pacifier and if you are able to BF are supposed to help as well. There's lists and lists of what they think helps prevent SIDS but no one really knows.

I don't like the PNP much at all but got a travel lite (it's like half the size of the PNP) for using at my mom's house. It's like a mini pnp but has the levels as well. Maybe see if someone has one of those you can borrow or get one used cheap if you want the baby in the room or look into the rock n play since that barely takes up any room.

Otherwise, air bed on the nursery floor works too. Chat Icon But going right into the nursery is great as well because it'll be one fewer transition!

DD was in a bassinet in the living room (with a large floor fan) and it worked out great. She was and is a great sleeper and I nursed/pumped.

We do have a ceiling fan in the baby's room, and DH has done tons of research on SIDS, which is part of why he really is for keeping DD in her crib. He feels like we spent so much time choosing a good supportive crib mattress, why would we put her in something that's not as supportive and feels flimsy? I would be okay with the Rock N Play, but DH is against anything that's not completely flat and that doesn't allow complete air circulation.

I am considering the PnP travel lite, since it will fit into my bedroom better, but I assume the mattress that comes with it is the same as the one in the regular sized PnPs?

I think I will most likely just see how she does in the crib at first since DH will be home and up for most of the night to check on her. And then if I decide I want her closer when he goes back to work maybe I'll go with the PNP travel lite. At least we could get some future use out of it as a small play yard.

I am planning on BFing, but I would probably bring DD into her nursery to use the glider chair to BF her and change her diaper in there anyway. I'm hoping to be able to pump in the beginning anyway, if possible, so that DH can feed her during the night while he's home from work.

We actually liked the RNP because of the angle -- I felt safer with DD's head elevated in case she spit up at all in her sleep so she wouldn't swallow the spit-up. It was totally my own "paranoid first time mom" thing I know but the few times she did spit up or throw up, I just felt better that it had somewhere to go. But the crib is perfectly safe from the first day home!

Play it by ear and see what happens. You'll probably have to get up anyway to at least pump overnight to make sure your supply is solid so even if the baby isn't at the boob overnight, you'll be up at the beginning. Maybe you'll just sleep in the glider in there -- you'll have to see.

The travel lite is the same as the PNP mattress.

The original RNP without the extra padding has great circulation just so you know.

Whatever you decide to do, be flexible (I'm sure you will)! You just don't know how things will go until they happen. The baby may not want to sleep at night at all the first few weeks so it'll be moot. We almost never use our PNP (I got a blow-up Go Crib we use for travel) so it was pointless for us to have.

Both of our boys went straight to their cribs.
With Sean, our bedroom was across the hall, and with Colin our bedroom was moved upstairs .......both were totally fine.

I kept baby in my room, pack and play . I used that as opposed to Rock and play so we could use angel care monitor. We also keep a fan in the room and give baby paci

I used the "Arms Reach Mini Co-sleeper"...I EBF my son and had a c-section. Not only did it save space but it was VERY convenient when it came to feeding time. (there are pockets on the side for wipes and diapers so you can change there too...) My DH would do the last feeding of the night with what I pumped during the day... I highly recommend it and he was in the co-sleeper until 6+ months old...

Not to hijack the post...but I'm glad LiveItUp posted this thread-b/c it's something I can't seem decide on either. I like that so many of you succesfully put your LO in their cribs; in their own rooms. I think I'm going to try that. IF we hae any issues I can always have DH go and get a RNP or something for the baby in our room. I plan on BF; and will do so in the nursery in the rocker; as well as do the diaper changes in the nursery so I have to get up out of the bed during the night anyway. We registered for the motorola video monitor so I'll have an eye on the baby at all times and he/she will literally just across the hall from our room and we will keep the doors open.

We plan on putting her right in the crib in her room from day one. One reason is we have two cats that are used to sleeping with us and cats and babies are never a good mix ( could suffocate the baby on accident)

2) I want her used to the crib, she will nap In a bouncer or pnp

For anyone who put LO in their own room right away , was it difficult? exhausting having to get up each time they cried? Nerve racking not bring right next to them?
