(Spring) St Marteen VS Aruba? (looking for reviews of BOTH)
We have an opportunity to go to either.
Anyone give some reviews of their experiences?

I have been to both a few times on cruises but haven't stayed overnight on either island. Would you go to the french or dutch side of st marteen?
Enjoy both are fabulous places! I don't think can go wrong with either choice. I would say it would depend on the resort and what you like/plan to do.

It would be the Dutch side of Saint Marteen, but we learned from St. Thomas that we enjoyed the jeep rental to explore.

Stayed a week on both - I much preferred Aruba. Both have beautiful beaches and good restaurants, but I found Aruba much cleaner an I felt much safer there. St. Maarten is a very poor island and if you venture out of the resort area you will encounter that, whereas Aruba seemed to have much less of that. I ha a great time on both but loved Aruba and would go back in a heartbeat.

I'd say Aruba is more commercialized than St. Maarten. Both are great destinations and both are safe in my opinion.

I don't enjoy it as much as I used to.
It's gotten crowded and very commercial.
DH and I travel to St. John now where we bought a timeshare. Easy to travel to BVI as well as other UVI islands.

I really took a liking to St. John & St. Thomas. Some amazing food & beaches & would love to see the others

I would go to aruba before st maarten. i remember walking down the street in St. Maarten and people trying to get you in to their store. they would come out and just try and get you in there. i had tried on a bracelet all of a sudden the sales lady was putting a necklace on me. If you are on the beach they try and braid your hair. I want a vacation to relax and there I just did not enjoy it.

Where in St. Maarten were you? I didn't find that at all in Philipsburg. We also took a trip to the other side and stopped for a bathroom break at a really fancy mall. That's not what i look for on vacation, but I just anted to point that out since someone said it was a poor island. It wasn't a tourist trap near the port either.
In Aruba, we were in Orenjestad and it kind of reminded me of St.Thomas int eh way that the tourist culture seemed to outweigh the local culture. Aruba is also more of a desert climate, so it can get windy & dusty.

I don't have time to write much, but I've been to both, and would definitely choose Aruba. St. Marteen is great too though!
