My cousin wants to do this but was planning on going north (Amsterdam Vienna Prague). I told her shed be better off going more south, Italy or Spain. Any ideas?

We went to Amsterdam and Dublin in January and it was beautiful! They are walking cities so it was nice that it was not too hot but not too cold either. Also, its low season so its not crowded at all!

I figured it would be in the 30's-40's, so I wasn't too keen on recommending it to her! Did you go in 2012?

Re: europe in december?
the temperatures will be similar to here, if not cooler. as long as she doesnt mind wearing long pants/boots/sweaters, do it! it will be less crowded and probably cheaper since its off season. it really has to do with preference.

Re: europe in december?
Germany has great Christmas "marts" fabulous decorations and Christmas attire and the like....very German flair also the famous gluvine, etc
If you do head to Europe I suggest the German Christmas markets

Re: europe in december?
I lived in north Europe for some time so know how frigid it gets there.
I won't recommend traveling there during the winter unless you have a very warm coat and can tolerate the cold. Keep in mind you also have to travel with more baggage because of the winter clothes and the outdoor attractions may be closed or just won't look the same.

I've been to Vienna and Germany in December - specifically to see the way it looked at Christmas! It's beautiful - but it was definitely cold.
However, if she's going for the purpose of going to museums, etc., it shouldn't bother her much. There are some great travel deals at that time of year for Europe and it's definitely less crowded, which makes it appealing.
