Disney California/Lego California MORE questions below

We are thinking of planning a trip to California. I have never been to Disney Ca/Legoland. Are there resort properties? Is there a book about Disney Ca that I should read? My kids love Cars and Little Mermaid so we are looking forward to seeing those new rides. Are there any restaurants we should eat in? What about hotels? Where would you stay?

Thanks so much for your advice!

Re: Disney California/Lego California

We just came back in August from Legoland which is about 40 minutes outside of San Diego. There is no resort property attached (there will be next year) but there are hotels nearby.
The park is doable in a day....It was very cute and DS who is 3 had a great time there.

We didn't go to Disney while we were there.

Most of our Disneyland clients spend a day at LEGOLAND as well - it's great for littles and an easy ride from a Disneyland resort.

Re: Disney California/Lego California

We go every year for a few days to break up the visit to MILs in AZ

There are three hotels on DL property. The Disneyland Hotel, Piedmont Piers (or something like that) and Californian. The Californian is the nicest, but we also enjoyed the Pier (we had a view of World of Wonder light show every night and it was awesome) You do have to walk to the monorail or through Downtown Disney, but I think even the furthest walk in CA is closer than the closest walk in FL.

The good neighbor hotels are just across the street so easy to deal with as well. We like to be on property to just charge things to the room.

We went to Legoland CA in June and my kids are huge Legofanatics and were pretty bored there. But I am glad we went, b/c they were dying to go. Maybe too high of expectations? They are 5&7.

Re: Disney California/Lego California

Did any of you go to the Universal Transformers exhibit? We went to the Bronx Zoo on Saturday and my kids favorite part of the zoo was the Lego animals exhibit. I think they would love going to Legoland.

How many days do we need at Disney? Will three days at Disney, One at Legoland and 2 or 3 at Universal work? We also need to fit in seeing my husband's aunt too. Perhaps we can convince her to join us at one of the parks....

You won't need more than two at Universal, maybe even 1.
3 minimum for Disneyland, esp. now because the Cars stuff will take awhile. (From what I have heard, last time we were there about 2 weeks before it opened!). We haven't done Legoland.

The resort properties are all great, but if you want to spend a little less money, there are tons of hotels that are w/i walking distance and cheaper. We stay off property at HoJo or Anabella. Or we stay at the Grand Californian if we are using our DVC points.

Anabella is beautiful! We're probably doing Grand Californian (early entry!) and Anabella in Feb.

I would take a day off Universal in that plan and add it to Disneyland.

I figure 4 days at Disneyland if you want to see it all and take breaks, etc.
