Need Help With All-Inclusives

Hi! DH, me, and our friends are looking to go away next spring. We would like to do an adult only all-inclusive, probably somewhere in the Caribbean. We will only be able to get away for 4-5 days (one couple will have a one year old at the time and can't stay away too long). I don't really know where to start looking, there are SO many places. We don't really have a set location preference at this time. Any recommendations would be great! TIA! Chat Icon

I'd highly recommend Couples Swept Away in Jamaica. The resort is small but beautiful and the atmosphere is just sooooo relaxed. Everything is "no problem, mon." Chat Icon

We've also been to Excellence Punta Cana which was fantastic and even more beautiful than Swept Away (and I think cheaper) but I just really loved Jamaica. There was something about the place...

Re: Need Help With All-Inclusives

I really love Sandals resorts! We've done La Toc twice and we're doing Jamaica next year. Currently booked at Grande Riviera, but thinking of changing to Whitehouse.

Are you all couples?

What are your interests? Sandals is phenomenal for divers because the free daily dives pretty much pay for the whole trip.

A lot of the resorts now have these amazing fire pit areas which seem like a great place for a group to hang out.

Grande Riviera would actually be great for a group because some of the rooms have a shared patio and pool area for a few rooms. I think it would be so cool to all book together and have a patio/pool area all to yourselves and your group. You would all have separate villlas but then the shared pool area. That's what I would probably do.

This is what the shared pool deck looks like. The rooms have private verandahs but then also this shared deck space. Depending on the size of your group, you could get this to yourself. it would require some coordination.

Thank you both SO much! I'm going to look into all of these.

To answer some of Jennifer's questions...
We will probably be 4 couples, maybe 5, and possibly one single (divorced) person if we can convince her to come...we're all in our late 20's. While my husband and I love doing activities, I think this may be more of a lay back and relax/drink by the pool type of trip...maybe some sightseeing/water activities but probably not much.

Any other suggestions?

eta: That pool deck looks amazing!

Sandals is couples only, but there are other AIs. Let me know if you have any questions about Sandals.

This has got me thinking I want to get a group together Chat Icon

Re: Need Help With All-Inclusives

We have been wanting to do a Secrets or Excellence resort for a while. Since you can only go a few nights, I would suggest only looking into places you can get a direct flight for- Cancun/Riviera Maya, DR, Jamaica, Barbados are all good options that I know have adults only resorts.

Thanks!! I wasn't sure if Mexico is safe to travel to now or not. My mom went on a girls trip to the Riu Palace in Playa del Carmen a couple years ago and had a great time

Re: Need Help With All-Inclusives

I would personally be fine going to Mexico, but you obviously need to do what you're comfortable with. I find, again just my opinion, that Jamaica is way more sketchy then Mexico.

We did Excellence Punta Cana and LOVED every single minute we were there. The staff was amazing and we also loved the food. I've been to a bunch of other AI's and this one was by far the best one we've stayed at!

Need Help With All-Inclusives

There are many good places where you can stay and enjoy your vacations and holidays. Last time, I went there with my family and stayed in Half Moon near Montego Bay and make lots of fun there. In my opinion, it is a nice place for visitors.

Re: Need Help With All-Inclusives

I think if you're staying at an AI, using their shuttles and teir excursions and not wandering off the resort on your own, it's safe! I'm going to Jamaica next year. In St. Lucia (where I've been twice) I felt safe to take cab and wander the city, but in Jamaica I would stick with the supervised trips

Thanks! We were in Jamaica (Ocho Rios) in 2006 but only for the day...it was a stop on our cruise. We didn't really explore or go into a town...DH did an ATV and Dunns River excursion--I didn't go (was recovering form surgery) so I just stayed at a resort with our other friends. We were told by employees not to really wander around. I've been to Mexico a few times but not in the past 5 years or so.

I highly recommend Excellence Resorts. We've been to Cancun - Riviera Maya twice and Punta Cana. Will be going back to DR for our anniversary - this resort is absolutely our favorite. Note - in the DR, I would recommend upgrading to the club level; in Mexico, I didn't think it made that much of a difference
