Babyproofing a Fireplace (Hearth)

So we realllly need to start babyproofing our house...our LO is going to be walking any day now. We have a fireplace with a marble hearth that's about a foot high. I have nightmares about DD falling into it...she could get seriously hurt. Did anyone ever have to babyproof a hearth? I'd love to hear some suggestions...TIA!

I ordered from this website

http://www.babysafetyfoam.com/

We have a brick hearth and I didn't use want the edges covered you can get those protectors at BRU or BBB.

I was disappointed when it arrived though because I thought it would be more like a slip cover and they just sent pieces of foam, so plastic nails and tape and you have to put it together yourself but you might be able to get some ideas from the site. Maybe you can get some foam and make one yourself.

I bought one of those foam letter sets and glued them together. Worked like a charm!

Here is a pic and a link to my post about it... http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=522376&Highlight=fireplace

the letter set is creative........ We got the foam cover and it runs along the edge, but I'm still nervous about the flat hard side

You're Welcome! They have other foam tiles that are less "kidish" than the letter tiles... I only saw them AFTER I bought all of the letter tiles & didn't want to spend more $$$ on the project, but if I had to do it over again I totally would've gone with something like these by Skip Hop...

A friend of mine had a company come and cushion the entire front of her fireplace, almost like a window seat
