Need help with anniversary trip
DH and I like to go away around our anniversary date, which is coming up in a few months. I'm hoping to find some suggestions for a weekend trip.
We've done wine country, casinos, Amish country, Greenport, pretty much everything out east on LI, so we want something different.
However, DH absolutely cannot take off from work or leave early during the fall as it is his company's busy season. That means the earliest we could leave is 5/5:30 p.m. on a Friday evening from his job in the eastern Nassau/western Suffolk area. We would want to be home by 10 p.m. latest on Sunday. I looked into Mohonk Mountain House, and it looks gorgeous...but I feel like we would only have one day there and one day worth of meals by the time we arrived Friday night...which kinda seems ridiculous for the cost. We don't mind spending that amount for the trip, but I'd at least like to get our money's worth. Any suggestions?
I love the fall and something centered on or near fall activities would be great but not necessary.

honestly, if you are not adverse to flying, i would fly somewhere. you can catch an 8pm flight, get somewhere by midnight. and have a full day and half seeing something totally different

This is what i would do. I would go to boston. Easy 45 minute flight. Great city!

I second New Hope, PA. We went to the Woolverton Inn, actually on the NJ side and we really loved it. We actually loved the Inn and the town of Stockton, NJ better than New hope itself, but it was nice.!

Can you stay in a hotel near mohonk and get day passes instead? It's so worth it, I absolutely love it there in the fall.
