Time off talk w/work?

At how many weeks did you start to discuss your plans as far as last day of work; potentially working from home at the end etc?

I'm due Jan 12th and I commute from Queens into Midtown via bus & train each day. I'm thinking I really don't want to trek into the city at 39 or 40 weeks pregnant. I want to figure out a way to work from home those last two weeks. Should I start having this discussion with my supervisors now?

To maximize the most time home w/LO my plan was to work until I deliver. Working from home will greatly help me keep working those last few days.

Re: Time off talk w/work?

I met with HR regarding my FMLA paper work and my planned maternity leave days around 34 weeks or so....they contacted me for the mtg based on when I told them I was due way back when. I then had to bring paperwork to my DR at my next appt for her to fill out and hand back to HR.

But if you're planning to work from home separate from / before maternity leave, I would talk to your supervisor sooner rather than later so they're prepared.

i spoke with my HR at 13 weeks and was basically told to meet with them again around 28 weeks. they gave me their basic policy but said when the time gets closer we can go over how to plan my time off (use vacation days, sick days or just get NYS disability pay etc).

IMO its never too soon to sit down with them and gather info. I was told my company does not allow working from home so i am glad i met with them when i did

ok thanks! I know 2 other co-workers that worked from home at the end of their pregnancy so it's definitely allowed. Just need to get approval from my supervisor to get the network connections at home. I'm 20 weeks; so i'll try to find a time to sit down w/my boss this week before we get busy with Budgets to discuss working from home a t the end. Thanks!!!

Time off talk w/work?

My EDD is tomorrow and I started my leave yesterday. I commute to downtown from Nassau. My doctor told me at my 37 week appointment he did not want me commuting anymore since I was over an hour away from the hospital. Thankfully I have an awesome boss and was able to work remotely. This week I am using my sick time.

I work for a small company and we use an outside HR company. I spoke with them in late May and was advised to wait until early July to fill out the paperwork so it didn't get lost in the shuffle. I did speak with the CEO and my boss about using my unused vacation time to add to the end of my 12 weeks when I was about 26 or so weeks.

Do you have a lot of people in your office that work from home already? If that's the case, then I don't see it being an issue for you. I would also talk to your doctor about your commuting. How long does it take you? How far is your hospital from your office?

I'll handle the paperwork with HR about a month or so before my EDD.

But I plan to have the leave discussion with my boss this week. I'll be 31 weeks on Thursday.

I spoke with my supervisor very early (10 weeks). I was being hired for a new position and wanted to make sure she knew I was pregnant and that I would be working up until the latest possible moment. It's not ideal at all, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
I will probably revisit the leave discussion once the time gets a little closer again.
